Volcano pool at the Poly

We are considering switching from the BC to the Poly for our October trip, but I'm concerned that I keep reading that the Poly pool gets very crowded very quickly. Is the pool not big enough for the resort?

Can anyone give some insight if this is a real concern or if we'll be able to enjoy the main volcano pool. I really want to use it for the zero entry.

We stayed at the Poly in October 2006, and never had a problem with the pool being overcrowded. With young children, I would definately choose the Poly over the Beach Club. The volacon pool is very nice, and it will be much easier for you to keep you eye on your children there then at SAB at the Beach Club, which is huge. Plus being on the monorail is so nice!

Well, i definately don't think you will have a problem with an overcrowded volcano pool in Oct. -We were there in Nov, and it was fine. Yes, it is not a HUGE pool, but it is very adaquate.

You didn't say how old your kids are -- this will affect your decision too.. As should what parks you want to concentrate on.

SAB is by far the best pool on WDW property, but it is a big area. However, i disagree with the above poster (respectfully) As we stayed at the BC when my dd was 3,4,& 5 -- and i love the smaller pool at SAB for her, i love the fact that it is distinctly separate from the bigger pool area, but yet, feels connected..and it was VERY easy to see my dd in the smaller pool.. and the sand there is wonderful touch -- there is usally someone there building sandcastles with the kids too. My dd LOVES this pool -- however, this november, she will be 7, and is a really good swimmer, so i am sure she will want to be in the bigger part too -- which is fine.

So,i definately would not suggest picking a pool just on the zero entry thing!!

As i said, it would help if i new the ages of your kids.

Also -- if you plan on going to the MK alot - the access to the monorail is wonderful from the poly (or the quick boat ride), but if you will be at Epcot, or Disney Holly.studios - then the BC would be the better choice.

We were there Oct 07 and the pool was super crowded. We spent most of the time at the quiet pool which was anything but quiet!

If you go during PPUT (Prime Pool Useage Time) which is usually between 2pm - 7pm then yes it *is* crowded. Still the pool is an adequate size. While I have used the pool during this time, my family and I prefer to swim in the late evening (10pm on) while watching the EWP and the fireworks and it's hardly ever crowded.

I have to disagree. The volcano pool is a great pool with a great waterslide. However, in my opnion it is too small for the size of the resort. The same goes for the main pool at WL.

We were there in late June. Crowded? I suppose, but no worse than the local city pool, and since there were far fewer unsupervised children than at the city pool, the swimmers were better behaved.

My kids loved the volcano pool and the monorail and have asked to go back to the Poly. I actually had to talk them into SAB for this trip. I think you'll be able to enjoy it on your trip.

Can't speak to Oct., but we were there in Aug., and by lunch time the Poly pool was waaaay too crowded !! We were there for 10 days, and if we weren't swimming early (never, we're at the parks) or late (not often), we used the "quiet" pool. Of course when there are screaming kids throwing frisbees, balls , etc., and cannonballing everyone, it's anything but quiet ! Good luck. If you're planning on spending much time at the volcano pool, you may need it. And yes, we feel that the pool is waaay too small for the resort.

See,so i would say that it depends on the time of year you go -- b/c as i said, in november,the poly pool was definately uncrowded.. but, i supposed in aug. it would be a different story.

We were at the Poly at the end of September during free dining and we didn't think it was bad at all. We've also stayed at the BC in the past and we like the Poly better . I think all the resort pools get a little crowded to some extent no matter how big or small they might be.

It absolutely depends on the time of day you go to the pool. In the early a.m. its very peaceful. But by late a.m./early p.m. it can get extremely crowded (even in the fall in our experience) So, if your plan is to come back from a park in the afternoon and head for the pool, it will likely be mobbed. If you're early or late swimmers, you should be fine.

And to the previous poster, yes, there are complimentary towels at the Volcano Pool.

we've stayed at the poly about 3 times in the past 5 years, and I won't stay there again till something is done about the pool situation. maybe our time of the year was bad, but it was always WAY overcrowded, sometimes hardly any room to move around in the pool. The quiet pool was ok, but not enough chairs around it. It wasn't as crowded in the actual pool at the quiet pool, but we couldn't find even a chair to share for the 4 of us. So while we love the poly, unless I start reading that the pool situation is better, I won't stay there.

Last December when my family and I stayed at the Polynesian we were there from the 15-25 and had no problems getting pool chairs. While it did get busy during the afternoons we still went early enough to make sure we would not have any problems.

We were there in September last year (during free dining, if that matters) and I don't remember it ever being crowded at all. I never heard any concerns about this before or since then though and never gave it a second thought. We were usually at the pool after lunch and in the early evening. The most crowded I remember was one evening during the MK fireworks, but even then, the beach had a lot of people, but the pool was wide open for swimming, splashing, etc. You certainly weren't bumping into other bodies in the water or anything.

Let's not forget that the Ticket and Transportation Center is about an 8 minute walk from any of the Poly Longhouses... so you are getting Epcot monorail within walking distance too.

True -- it's not bad to get to Epcot -- but if you are BC/YC it's just a lil' easier it seems to get back and forth to Epcot.. imo. But, no, it wasn't bad to get to Epcot.

I love both resorts, i think they offer both great things! That's why we alternate, poly and BC every year.. LOL Last year was a poly year, this nov. it's BC
