Voicemail Issue

So I have not been getting voice mail alerts on my iPhone 8 Plus. Instead I am getting this odd text message.

//
VZWVVM:SYNC:ev=NM;id=105;c=14; t=v;s=962-541-5262;dt=05/12/2019 14:42-0800;l=20;dev_t=5

The BOLD is the missed number and then date & time. Everything else makes no sense to me

Anyone know how to get this to stop & to start getting regular voicemail alerts? I have done a reset but it hasn't resolved it.

And YES I have googled it. Which lead me to realize that this is a voice mail alert and to try doing a reset.

I ran a search on part of your string, came up with a bunch of items, "voice mail problem iphone VZWVVM:SYNC"

This post is a bit older but had some good info, and some help at the bottom in the comments that might be worth checking out.

Sorry that's all I've got but I'd agree with @wenrob it's a carrier issue, probably a sim card related issue.

Strange, I also haven't been getting voice mail alerts on my Samsung. I'm not getting text messages though.

So that must mean you don’t know how to fix the issue?
I’m the farthest thing from a tech expert but sometimes the old ways are best. Whenever my phone or iPad starts doing something weird I check for updates and install them and/or give the device a hard re-start. Works practically all the time.

I was just hoping I was missing something and wouldn’t need to call. Plus at 10 o’clock at night I wouldn’t do anyway. Not sure why all of a sudden my voicemail changed to this “visual voicemail” or why it’s not an option to turn it off in the Voicemail settings.

I just find it funny when someone who doesn’t know an answer posts did you google it? Did you call them? Like no one would ever think to do that.

I had 17 voicemails that I didn’t know I had from early October to Yesterday. 2 from PGE about power being turned off/on. 3 from the bank on something I was waiting on, went by to check on it earlier this week thinking they hadn’t ever called, and the rest from a lady who calls to confirm “Jan’s” hair appointment. Not sure why she hasn’t realized she’s not calling Jan. I blocked her number a long time ago.

Did you google? Or call your carrier? If you didn't, then it was good advice, even if you didn't like it.

Do you have "visual voice messaging" set-up on your Verizon Wireless account? If you don't have the paid version option, the free version only provides a short bit of the message. But my guess is these may be junk/spam calls that don't actually leave any message if it's coming through blank. You can access some FAQs about it online through your Verizon account; that may save you a call. I think you can change settings to turn it off through your online account as well, but I'm not positive.

Geez. You didn’t mention talking to your carrier so I figured it was a good suggestion. You’ll get to the bottom of the problem faster with them than you will on The DIS.

The problem is MANY, MANY, MANY people post online asking a question WITHOUT googling or calling. If they don't say they've done it, you can't assume they have. It's the same reason when you call a tech support line, one of the first things they'll ask you is "did you unplug it and plug it back in?". Yes, that's an obvious first step, but one MANY people skip over.

That is a Verizon setting not an iPhone setting, if you login to your Verizon account you might have control over it.

I don’t even have Verizon. I have Straight Talk, it uses the Verizon network though.

Which may be true. But posting to “google” it isn’t really helping. Just ignore the post if yuh can’t offer any real help.

Asking did restart or unplug it is actually offering help. Even if it is or should be an obvious first step.

So you want someone to google for you? I suggest taking your own recommendation and ignoring the post if it doesn't offer any "real help".

FWIW, no one even suggested googling until you complained about someone suggesting it (post #8).

Then check your Straight Talk account, see if there is anything there to manage your voice mail. I don't know how that works but it's the Verizon network aspect of your service because those are Verizon abbreviations (VZW = Verizon Wireless and VVM = visual voice messaging).

Here's a link to the Verizon info about visual voice mail: https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/visual-voice-mail-faqs/#vvm
