Hi,

Not sure if this was posted. VMK newsletter page added the following to their explanation of how the Dream Promotion is working:

What's your Disney Dream?

Dreams101-2007-09-05-YearOfAMillion%20Dreams.jpg

It's the Year of a Million Dreams! Come share in the magic and fun at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and the Disneyland Resort in California – where dreams come true!

VMK is celebrating this magical time with Dreams Month! That's right, this month we're making dreams come true too!

By now you've probably seen a few of our in-game Hosts roaming around the Virtual Magic Kingdom giving away VMK Dreams Month prizes! In fact, they're giving away thousands of VMK Dreams prizes! Who gets these prizes? Why you do – and here's how!

VMK Dreams Month Details
  • Only VMK Hosts (Host_Hula, Host_Phinny, and Host_Lily) are awarding VMK Dreams prizes. Please do not ask other VMK staff members or send a Call For Help asking staff to visit you. (Remember, using Call For Help for anything other than an emergency situation could result in your account being banned permanently from VMK. If you have a question or comment use Contact Us, not Call For Help.)
  • Our program randomly selects public rooms for the Host to visit, so filling up public rooms like Main Street USA or Tiki Tiki Tiki Island won't get Hosts to visit that room.
  • When visiting players guest rooms, Hosts are assigned a certain type of room to visit, so creating a "Host Come Visit!" or "Please Give Me Dreams Stuff!" rooms won't get Hosts to visit your room.
  • If a Host visits one public room, such as the Frontierland Hub, chances are they won't be visiting that room again on the same day.
  • When you see a Host walking around the Kingdom, please do not surround them asking for specific VMK Dreams items.
  • Our program randomly places Host in certain places at certain times, in addition the VMK Dream item they give is generated by our system – so specific requests cannot be accommodated. Host do not know their Dream Squad assignments in advance - so please don't ask them where they will be or what prizes they are awarding, as even they do not know until it's time to award that Dream.
  • What's the best way to win a Dreams prize? Just be yourself! Play your favorite VMK games, hang out in your favorite public areas, and create fun and fantastic rooms. Just be you and maybe your VMK dreams will come true!
Finally, please understand our Host have many VMK Dreams to grant so they may not have time to chat or answer your questions.

Nifty...

Is this in place of a newsletter? You know Pirate: never one to visit the VMK page unless its important.

But yeah, this does give some clarification. It appears that I should host a "waiting" party in my Doctor Jones room sometime this weekend. Any objections?

Well, golly.... I wish VMK would get their ducks in a row before they release a new thing. So Dreams Moon has been going for nearly a week and then they finally post information on how it works.

Sheesh... :scratchin

And through that randomness, some people have won 4-5 times in less than a week while others have not gotten a thing. At least make them trade able so everyone can enjoy the new cool goodies.

So, not tradeable, huh? I always wondered...

What if someone has two Dream hats? If it's non-tradeable, does the spare just collect dust because it cannot be used?

That makes sense. :rolleyes1

I know a few people that have two pairs of ears..

they wish they were tradeable because they know they aren't going to use the other pair.

And as the Ears are one of the most sought after, it would be logical for one friend to gift the spare ears to the second, with the second being overwhelmed with gratitude.

Isn't that what this month is about? :grouphug:

If what they are doing is giving everyone a chance to be "Dreamed" the items, maybe they should make the ears tradeable AFTER this month. That sounds like a healthy compromise. :thumbsup2

I have seen ppl have 4, 5 even 6 dream items. I dont believe its random. And why keep awarding ppl over and over if its not tradable? I'm installing a neon sign over mine and sweets head

While I am sure some people are camping out in a spot because they heard it received a prize or whatever.
Our program randomly selects public rooms for the Host to visit, so filling up public rooms like Main Street USA or Tiki Tiki Tiki Island won't get Hosts to visit that room.
I think most people are just visiting friends and the room ends up full, which then develops a line because it is full. I think a full room doesn't necessarily negate that a host would or could visit especially if it is indeed randomly preselected.

If a Host visits one public room, such as the Frontierland Hub, chances are they won't be visiting that room again on the same day.
As players we have no idea where they have visited other then antidotal word of mouth so not really sure how this info is helpful

I am not sure how they will pop into one of my favorite games and award prizes so I kind of disagree with that as a possible good idea. When we play we play non-stop.

Nice touch but the counter seems erratic on its count and seems to go back and forth a bit.

Overall the promotion/theme is a good one, it leaves some feeling left out and others feeling there is preferential treatment and this or that. For the most part no matter what they do with this or any theme some people are going to love it, others are going to hate it and complain. There really is no way for them to win. Although I am shocked at the winners complaining about dropping value and lack of ability to caplitaize on these items, perhaps when it is over they will be tradeable. Once everyone has a chance then I can buy the items off a 2 or 3 time winner. People were complaining by the first day that they had not won, or that the items were ruining the value of things. I think a few people do get preferential treatment, but overall I think the game is fair in that respect other then some isolated instances where we would all be surprised if certain people did not get whatever.

While personally I will be surprised If I win anything from the promotion. While we were at WDW last month we saw dreams given about 6 times. It is human nature to say “aww, so close – yet of course we were happy for the winners, this is the nature of random selection of winners. I will wait for the month to end to say there was no surprise in what I got. Many of my friends have won items and I am happy for them and glad they have won and hope many more do. As far as this clarifying anything…I get 10 messages a day from staff in game essentially telling me this same information, the rest of it you have my thoughts.

You never know, this could be exactly what they are doing. On day 1 I saw someone offer a stitch hat for the dream ears before they realized they were not tradeable. They could be trying to prevent that from happening knowing they are giving so many away are trying to avoid the hurt feelings for people paying to much early on. At the end of the month, the market is flooded, and if they open it up to trade, the trade value wont skyrocket to inferno off the bat.

Yeah, this could have helped me out when the ATIS Mighty Eye pin came out. :rotfl2:

How many did I win? Two. How many did I trade away for small things? Two.

I agree and hope that is the plan. They left it not tradable so people would not be giving up their left ah ... foot for these items when they have 31 days to possibly have them given to them. Once the month ends people that were on the list of people not to randomly distribute stuff to can then trade for the items or let me rephrase that, the unlucky people can trade for the stuff.

I think that's what most of us would do.

It kinda removes the magic if you trade these to another person expecting a payout.

Hi,

I have to agree with this. I have a feeling they will be trade able next month. VMK is trying to cut the scamming down. They would get so many calls for help if people traded a ton of stuff for ears and got them the next day. I really hope when this is done that they have it in their hearts to allow us to trade the items. That would be a nice dream to all...

Why isn't HOST_Sparky on the list? :( Poor Sparky. A kid in VMK just said that he got ears from Sparky, but AFTER the Dreams time.
Anyone else got info?

that's a really good question! Sparky is a host why isn't he able to give dreams to people?

I feel the same as Pirate that it would be nice if someone was able to gift their Dream item to a friend. That seems very Dreamy to me. Of course I think it should be ok for people to trade it "for a profit" - If people are willing to overpay at the beginning of the month because they really want the new item, why should VMK stop them? As happens all the time with the new Host pins... But I suppose VMK gets complaints about that from people ... And I'm certain people take advantage of others... So maybe as Angus thinks, VMK is trying to nip that in the bud. That would be nice... to think VMK is actually thinking ahead and planning something for a change ;)

Imagine if all specially released items (like the Dream items, or quest items/Host pins, etc.) remained non-tradeable during their time of release, and only became tradeable after retirement.... That would lower scam artist, I should think. And would cut down on the "I traded my Stitch for this Host Pin and then won it in a porter game two weeks later, can I have my Stitch back?" complaints.

I hear there are people still wandering around with multiple Purple Superhero costumes... Those aren't tradeable either (more's the pitty!)... I wonder if VMK will ever fix that...

Multiple Dream hats... I wonder if they're sellable, and for how much? I have one but am too afraid I'll goof up and not cancel the sale, and actually sell it, to find out myself their "value" :rotfl:

If VMK isn't going to make Dream Items (or Purple Superhero) tradeable, then they should make the Sell back value a lot. Like 2000 credit for Dream Ears, or the like... At least then your multiple Dream items wouldn't be for naught.

I saw the counter changing even in the middle of the night. I'm told SmallD spent some time monitoring the counter and it's more a timer, it changes like every 5 minutes.

I sort of like the idea of the Promotion, though I'm not behind it 100% ... I've some complaints...

For starters, the rules/instructions for the game should have been posted the First Day. Communication is always the key to avoiding FUD (which causes complains, jealousy, scamming, etc.).

There are people who don't play VMK enough to sit in rooms for hours on end hoping to get a random visit. There really should be some way (quest, etc) that we can get items ourselves on our time. Not on VMK's Random time.

Next, as others have suggested, why not have it so that the first time a person logs into VMK during Dreams Month (not any given day, but the first time during this month) they get a prize. Completely unannounced ... That would be a worthly surprise... Something new and never seen before, the Ears or maybe a Pin. Make it untradeable if you're worried about clone hording... That would have been a good way to get people fired up! How cool would it to have been to get a message that read "Welcome to VMK's Dream Month, to start your Dreaming you've been awarded a special Dreams Pin, now read the VMK Newsletter about our exciting new promotion" at which point players could have read the rules discussed above.

Sure, you want to keep some things special, that's fine, have one or two items be random give-a-ways, but others should be Quest, other Host, others Buyable (and retired after a weekend). And who am I to say they won't do such later this month? I mean, sure it's early.. but tell us... One of the really neat things about Halloween '06 was that we were given advance notice of what was coming out. Surprise was kept by posting "Mystery Item" - That was AWESOME! Again, communication is paramount to pleasure.

I just feel sorry for the casual VMK player... I have some friends who play regularlly because they like Disney and they enjoy "collecting" Disney stuff (and they liked the In Park Quests, but alas...). But when I say casually I mean they get on just enough to get their Dailies and then maybe another hour or so a week to play some mini-games for more credits. They usually buy one of each item that comes out and try to complete each quest, etc. VMK isn't their life, but it is something they do enjoy! This type of player is highly unlikely to get rewarded by the Dreams month. And yet they are the perfect player for Disney... They use the game the least (ie don't cost VMK much in resources), but enough to consistantly be thinking about Disney (the goal of any advertising/promotion).

Should VMK addicts, uh I mean zealots, no uh ... Devout Players (yeah, that's it) who play 3+ hours every day... (You know... the people who live on VMK?) Should they get extra rewards for their ... ahem ... game loyalty? Sure! But that doesn't mean the other should be neglected entirely.

I guess the promotion is rolling along ok. It's not the best, but it could be worse I guess... Though it's easy for me to say that as I've already won what I wanted most, and I know others haven't... It's still early in the month. It's a wonderful feeling to be in the room while the Host is there giving out the prizes. That is Disney Magic. I just hope everyone gets a chance to experience it! :cloud9:
