VMK Central Disneyland Good byes

Sadly we weren't able to go by this weekend (birthday party for oldest and hubby worked all day Sun). I'm sad it is gone but would love to hear from anyone that goes today or sometime this week if the computers are still working for VMK in Inoventions.

Though I might believe that it is because the queue is long enough to interfere with people trying to get to the new Nemo ride.

Really if they were to ever use the Nemo subs as an excuse it would be lies. It wouldn't affect anything to do with getting to it or lines for it. The lines for it when they are way long (which they obviously will be for a while) will wrap around towards the Matterhorn then if needed up towards Small World. This is what is being said all over and really if you look at the place the only way to do it. You can't let it go out towards where VMK Central is standing cause it would be in the way of people walking and trying to get to Autopia or something else depending on where they are coming from. They will mention Nemo just because it will give that another push but that is all it is.
Anyway, I'm sad it is gone. I still wish we could have a real legit answer to why it is.

Maybe the lines this week were unusually long, but several times we had to walk around the people in line for VMK. Not necessarily a hinderance to Nemo, but just access to anything in the area. We waited in line ourselves for 40 minutes in the hot sun and I started thinking ... why can't we do this inside. When you go to Innoventions at Epcot, they don't make you do the whole Tom Morrow spiel. I would go peek in innoventions at DLR a lot more if they didn't make it so time consuming just to get in. :headache:

Yes it is a sad day...with VMK gone for good at DLR :sad1: It makes no sense that Disney would and does give prevence to WDW..but it does! I was brought into vmk at DLR! Getting my first big stack of cards for joining and doing all the quest last year! That was so cool and lots of fun! Fun that I might add was with family! But hey... what can we say other than ..
Good Bye VMK..we are going to miss you!!

We do live close to DLR and we go alot! In fact planning another trip next month when our son comes home on leave with his family. VMK will not stop us in going to Disneyland..as my kids grew up on DLR. It is as they is "the Happest Place on Earth" It is where yo can go and forget all your troubles or just be a kid again! So much to do there...something for everyone!! Yes... GOOD-BYE...VMK we will miss!!! :sad1:

:sad2: How sad. I only got a chance to go to DLR while VMK existed once. Now, if I go back to visit family, we can still go to DLR, sure, but the entire time I'll be saying, "Hey guys, let's go over to VMK--oh wait, nvm." I still don't understand why they're taking out VMK central. It surely wasn't deserted when I went there. There was a lady in front of me (who wasn't very good at Disney trivia, lol) and a little boy behind me who looked excited to turn in his quests. I mean, the line wasn't as long as for Space Mountain or whatever, but who cares? It was long enough to make my parents impatient.

I have seen the lines long there but really never had issues with going around since you have to go around people and other lines at times in the park in other spots. I might be used to it and just not think about it though. LOL But I am betting it was so long this last week because so many knew it was closing and wanted to get those quests in before they couldn't anymore. And sorry you had to wait in the sun. I know that isn't even the hottest but standing directly in the sun makes it feel like it. Be glad it wasn't a heat wave at least. LOL And hey at least you did get to go and turn the quests in before it closed! :goodvibes I wish I could have done them again one more time but it wasn't near 60 days for me.

Goodbye Disneyland VMK Central. I go to WDW but when this closes, the WDW one will probably close too.
Hope everyone got the last of their in-park quests done!

I haven't been today to see if the computers are closed inside, but I was told on Saturday that they would be. Apparently the downstairs (at least?) portion of Innoventions is to be rennovated to become the House of the Future. Bah.

The same CM that told us that the computers would be open, at least for a little while, also gave us the line that it was VMK decision to close.

This is a sad day indeed. I do thank myself for finally making myself go yesterday to get those final cards to add to my collection, but I'm am very sad that it is now gone. RIP DLR VMK, or maybe not?

P.S. looking at that photo back at the beginning of the thread, I couldn't believe I'm not in that photo because I remember standing right behind that person in the middle of the photo with red hair with a Hawaiian shirt? Where did I go? I can't remember LOL

How very funny! We must have been there at the exact same time. The guy in the stripe shirt is probably blocking you. Forgive me, as I clearly dont know you at all, but are you the 1 behind the red headed girl in THIS picture? (And clearly you do not need to answer that if you dont want to....). Just thought I'd look to see if I had 1 without the guy blocking the person behind the red-headed lady. (ok, that sentence hurt my brain a little haha!)

By the way, imagine waiting in that line in the sun only to be told you cannot get cards until Thursday because you are only at 56 days. Just I guess I'll just go back then, Disney. Oh, wait.......

Enjoy the photo, if it's you:

actually, I'm not in that one either. I think I remember standing behind her and then I left for a moment because the line seemed to not even move. But you were probably there the same time but just missed me and I probably walked off right when you took the photo, lol

This is something I learned a long time ago when asking CMs anything. They never know. You will also see different answers given on things by the CMs. While they may say it is going to be open or close they don't also know themselves. Which most will answer things as best they can and the others just give a guess or the I don't know answer and walk away. I've learned to not even bother with asking CMs anything usually because of it. Plus I usually know whatever and don't even need to ask. Which in part is from all my years going..as well as thanks to the many Disney sites out there putting info out for us Disney nuts. :goodvibes I don't know how many times I have actualy given info to other guests when a CM didn't know whatever themselves. Which in part nowadays is the turnover rate on the CMs too as well as a few other reasons but I won't go all into that. I do hope someone can get there and see if the computers are working or not. I'm really hoping so cause I wasn't able to get over there for my oldest son to make his in park character like he wanted.

I too was one of the people who was there for the final day. The CM we got was REALLY nice. One of the nicest ones we've had at the VMK kiosk in all the times I've been there. I actually think he was the one in sunglasses in that later picture that Disney Dreams posted. Anyway, even though my mom and I had already been there and turned in some quest cards about a month ago, he let us get another copy of each available card. He also let us get a whole set for each of our family members (there are five of us) with our season passes, even though it was just my mom and I who were there (something I was worried about since the rest of the family had gotten sick and couldn't go at the last minute). There was a girl in front of us who was having her fourteenth birthday, so he gave her four of the spooky magic cards. We talked to him for a little bit and he said that he was shocked that they were closing down VMK central and that he had no idea until very recently because he had been training elsewhere. I really wish that all of the CMs at that kiosk had the same attitude as him. And I am SO glad that the girl who had the shift before him went away just before we got up to the front of the line. There was a kid who had asked about it going away and how you would get the other three seasonal cards and she made some snide remark to them about going to Florida. I honestly felt like saying "yeah, that's nice, and are you planning on paying for that trip?" But I refrained. What a grouch though. Eesh.

I'm going to DL for my yearly visit on 6/17. Since VMK Central is now closed, what cards can I still get and where in the DLR?

If you purchase something at the Main Street Magic Shop (even a $5 Gift Card that you can spend elsewhere later in the park; this is what I usually do) you can get a Magic Mirror card. Also at DCA you can watch the animation show and get the Animation Desk card. Often you don't actually have to watch the show (though it is fun to learn how to draw a Disney character), if you ask the Cast Member out front for a card they usually will just give you one.

Finally, you can buy the VMK Pin boxes at just about any pin and/or pirate shop. These have a two mystery pins/cards. Just make sure you open the boxes before you leave the shop to make sure your cards have codes on them. I once had a blank card.

Thanks for the info Goofy_Bob. That's pretty depressing. Hopefully they will bring VMK Central back in another location.

You can also get a penny press if you buy candy at Pooh Corner. The chocolate covered pretzels are only $1.25 we got the kind that were rolled in toffee chips too, yum

We also got cards for buying a t-shirt, they were for Mickey Mouse retro shirt. Can't you already buy that on vmk? Anyway we were buying the shirt and the cards were a bonus.

Are they still doing these two promotions? I hadn't tried them in a while. At the candy shop they used to have $0.59 Mickey Mouse lollipops. I'd get ten... Heh. As for the T-Shirt, you could only get that VMK card at the Star Trader shop next to Star Tours. You have to buy a real shirt to get the card. And yes, the card gives you a buyable t-shirt that only costs 25 credits. Don't go out of your way on this one.
