Since the loss of a close pet(my cousins actually, long story of everything else), I've been very upset and then I remember others have also lost family members and pets. So, I was thinking that we, the DIS'ers, could all have a candle ceremony. These 'candles' will be made from 3 ice blocks, crates, or travel cases and have a camp fire placed on top. Our goal is to get 15 candles (please more!) spread across DIS rooms, anyone and any room belonging to a DIS member, and on a special day in early June we will all gather together in my room around a big candle and have a few moments of silence and reflection. There will also be a chance for us to say something to those who have left this earth, and a chance to light special candles. Perhaps a poem will be said, or maybe a prayer.

I will get into further detail only if you guys think it's a good idea, if not, I'll hold the ceremony by myself and you guys can drop in if you like.I got this idea from the www.petloss.com candle ceremony ;) Please vote!

milkabum u can vote for your own poll and i lost my great grandma and she was really nice to me so that's why i want to do this.

When we loss our dog Sparkie at age five to diabetes. I too went to petloss and wrote a short bio on her life and did the candle ceremony. It really helped. When we first loss her I lit a candle ever night for a few months to let her know I was thinking of her. Now we light a candle each Christmas to remember all those who are not with us during this season. I will join you in the ceremony. I think is very nice.

I love this idea. I love the petloss website...it was a real comfort to me during the loss of 3 pets in the last two years. We did the candle ceremony and it was just beautiful. I think a virtual one would be a great idea.

count me in. (as long as the ceremony won't be during 10:00 am through 4:00 pm EST, because i have school.) oh and the people i have lost are My Uncle Teddy and My Great Grandpa. My Grandpa Eddie also died, but that was before i was born, so i never got to meet him.

I am in i lost my rabbits and my two grandads one of them i never saw he died when he was 40.

I lost my grandpa about 3 years ago, and just recently lost my best friend. Yeah, my best friend was my Silky Terrier, Baci (BACHI). Its Italian for Kiss

good idea i lost my grandad i didnt see him he died when my dad was about 5 months. my nans boyfriend died a few years ago he was like a grand did

Count me in, as long as it is a suitable time for us UK people (5 hours ahead of eastern).

Been almost seven years since I lost my Tina, a beautiful whippet who I had had for 19 years. She was the light in my soul when things were going wrong and she is still missed terribly.

A great idea, thanks milkabum

Great to see you like it :) Giving a bump up!

I lost my mom's dad before I was born, and I lost my other in 2004, July 4th, after the Euro cup game. 21 days before I saw him for the first time I could remember.

Both died from a heart attack, and the one who passed in 2004 had a stroke while IU had my communion so I didn't get to see him. :sad1: They're all  now

I understand, I have school too. I will try to make it around 4:30-6:30 somewhere in between on Friday, and then double ceremonies on Saturday/Sunday in the morning and evening. I might try to do a ceremony one-four times a week the first time so everyone can get a chance to go, and then continue with 2 times a week. It will hopefully become the part of the week where we remember them

I will make the final post within the next two weeks and then we could start weekly ceremonies early June, late May.
