Why does my wife need a $400 blender? There are other brands for a fraction of the cost. What does this do that others dont? thanks

Turns any solid into soup in seconds flat.

Super strong, major industrial motor. And more. Yes, it is not just another blender.
Nearly 20 years later, it's the only wedding present I still use daily. The thought it was overkill, but turns out, it's indispensable, present

Were I you, if I could, I'd spring for it, and expect to eat healthier, deliciously, as a result. Providing you use it. Also frozen fresh strawberry ice cream In seconds. LOVE.

I bought a Blendtec the end of January. I was worried that it may be a waste of money and I wouldn't use it. Wow! was I wrong. I make green smoothies almost every morning. I've used it for salad dressings, shakes, ice cream and guacamole and I've only had it two months. It has been a great investment. You really can't compare them to other blenders (except Vitamix/Blendtec). I tried to make green smoothies in my Cuisinart and Magic Bullet and they could not chop the spinach fine enough. The Blendtec completely purees it.

I know you asked about a Vitamix but the Bledtec is very similar and I got it at Costco on a special for $299.

I've had my vitamix for about 4 years and I use it almost every day. I make frozen treats in the summer (freeze fruit in ice cube trays and blend to make all natural italian ice), fruit and veggie smoothies (it will actually blend a carrot or celery completely smooth, try that with a regular blender), soups (you don't have to cook on the stove, the vitamix cooks it as it blends and it will actually steam), grind coffee (buy large bags of whole bean and grind once a week so it stays fresh), make homemade oat flour from oats, homemade pasta sauce without chopping the veggies...it can do so much and it's durable and made in the USA. My mom actually brings her vitamix to Disney when she goes (they drive)!:cheer2:

Ice can be made into snow, literally! My kids love it for snowcones.

I also can blend a green smoothie made with kale and spinach and there are absolutely NO chunks in it, it is blended to oblivion! Same with any kind of frozen fruit smoothies. NO CHUNKS.

I just used mine a few minutes ago. Had it for over 10 years now and still going strong. This is what I made.....

I added
banana, papaya, blueberries, pomegranate seeds, peaches, strawberries (all were frozen from freezer). Then I added some fresh spinach, a 1/2 cup of V-8 splash juice and a teaspoon of agave. Turned it on and voila, frozen fruit smoothie! Kids love it!

One more thing.....we paid $400 for it over 10 years ago so it obviously hasn't gone up in price either.

I have an Oster two speed blender at home that I paid $20 for in 1967 or 1968 and I still use it regularly.

See, you could ask $400 for that puppy now! :thumbsup2 ;)

I'm happy with my <$100 Ninja 1200: turns ice into snow, my smoothies are perfect without using a tamper, and I can heat my soup in the microwave. :)

I just used my vitamix this am to take frozen bananas and whip them smooth. I am on a diet, and it makes for a good frozen treat.

We use ours every day, probably even twice a day over half of the time. We have had it about 4 years now.

Ice has ruined every single blender I've ever owned. I love to make fresh fruit smoothies with ice, orange juice, frozen yogurt and fruit. I would love to buy a Vitamix. I recently saw one at Costco. I believe it was *only* in the $200's.

My Vitamix is 12 years old and is still going strong. I use it every other day to make healthy green smoothies. I also grind ice to make iced coffee drinks.

I add fresh spinach to my fruit smoothies. It doesn't change the flavor much and adds great vitamens. I freeze fruit when I can buy it cheap or pick it for free and mix apricots/peaches/raspberries to a banana and orange or apple.

It has turned out to be one of the most used small appliances in my kitchen. I highly recommend it.

@ our Costco it was still $400 and it was a different model (someone that knew a bunch about them asked and seemed disappointed in the model offered)

I can't justify it. I figure for that price I can buy a smoothie when I want one.

Although oat flour option sounds interesting...........

We also use tart cherry juice concentrate and Knox glucosamine/gelatin powder into our smoothies to help decrease inflammation from arthritis. I add spirulina when we need a quick hit of energy.

Since someone is looking for recipes, I also use plan Dannon yogurt with any other 100% fruit juice for flavor. We never add any sweeteners.

We are 50 and 60 on no prescription medications with clean bills of health on our blood tests and attribute part of it to the nutrition we get from our smoothies. Think of the health benefits of juicing while keeping all the fiber from the fruits and veggies (unlike some juicers) before you decide if $400 is too much to spend.

Love my vitamix. Started investigating one when our daughter was diagnosed anemic. We picked ours up at Costco and use it several times a day.

Why don't you ask HER, OP? Have her teach you how to use it!!

Paid about $400 for my BlendTec a few years ago, and don't regret it a bit. It's an investment and I agree with a pp, you can't compare other blenders to a VitaMix or BlendTec. They're in a class by themselves. My BT has the same horsepower that my husbands commercial table saw has...haven't found anything yet that it won't blend. Also, you won't find a 7 year warranty on an average dept store blender. We use ours every day, often multiple times a day. We make daily green smoothies, I make almond milk, dairy free ice creams and treats, salad dressings, fresh salsa, sauces for pasta, and a jillion other things.
