Do you take any. If so, what and for what reason. I want to start taking better care of myself so I've been doing some research on what I should be taking. It all seems so intimidating to me. Diabetes and heart problems run in my family so I would like to help prevent these (i'm doing the exercise too). Also, I worry about alzheimers, and I don't know if any supplements help prevent that in any way.

I strongly recommend the book "Fertility, Cycles, and Nutrition" for all women. I can't think of the author right now. It's not just for women with "female" problems. It covers supplements, including brand names, and what women need more of certain nutrients.

I take vitamin E, vitamin A, B-Complex with vitamin C and Calcium with vitamin D. These were recommended by my doctor. Heart disease runs in my family. In addition, I'm going to start taking Omega3 fish oil (Yuck!).

My Mom, who is 48, is taking pre-natal vitamins for the folic acid and iron (we tend to be anemic). Her Dr. gave her a perscription for them. :)

I take One A Day for Women, zinc and echinecea during cold and flu season and a supplement which includes both E & C. I have heard that the later two taken in combo can help memory/mind kind of functions.

I take a few Atkins vitamin/supplements since I have been low carb dieting.

Not me, but DH is a supplement freak. He drinks all those high protein shakes, and some other junk he mixes with orange juice and a bunch of vitamins - I feel like I live in GNC.

Be sure to take them with food, not instead of food! I forgot to do that the other morning and ran to the bathroom several times to throw up!

Last May my doc added fish oil concentrate, baby aspirin and vit e to help me avoid any heart problems.
I was already taking - tums, multi-vit and vit c

My DH works for a company who sells nutritional supplements. Their biggest seller is a multi-vitamin that has just about everything in it. It comes in a little pack with 5 pills that you take once a day. The other major things are Omega 3 fish oils and people also like Coenzyme Q-10. But bare bones you should be taking Viamins C & E. DH has researched a lot about this field and warns people that you have to be most careful of the cheap store brand vitamins, many times what you see on the label is not what you get, a direct relationship that the nutritional industry is not regulated by the FDA. In vitamins it pays to pay more if you're serious about it. (I take a double dose of children's chewables because I don't swallow pills, yuck!)

every 3 mo, my mom sends me over these packages of mens vitamens, when she visits she checkes them to make sure I am taking them.

I don't, but my SO takes Centrum every now and then.

LOL, Jason.:teeth: What does she do to you if you don't take them?:p

I take Ocuvite for macular degeneration in both eyes. I guess time will tell if it actually has any benefit.

LOL! You need to nickname your mom The Enforcer.:p I bet someone will tell her you're hiding them.:p

I have always taken a multi-vitamin, but since I started growing out my hair I started taking pre-natal vitamins and wow, my hair is growing and my nails are awesome. I also take a calcium supplement since I am not a big milk drinker.

I take a one a day multi-vitamin for women, calcium, omega-3, vitamin e (which can also thin your blood-so if you have thin blood already don't take it) and b-6. I agree that you have to be careful with certain brands not being pure but just because it's more expensive doesn' always mean you're getting a better product. You really have to do your homework and see what is best for you and also what products are worth the money. I have a book called the vitamin bible, i am not sure if it is still in print, but if it is not I am sure there a plenty that are. Check your local library or book store.:wave2: :sunny: :sunny:
