Vistana Villages-Cigarette Smoking Question

I just read on allearsnet.com that Non-Smoking rooms are not guaranteed. My question is has anyone here ended up with a "Smoking Allowed" Villa? If so, was it so bad that you had to get an Air Filter (which I read is first come, first serve) from Guest Services?

Or was it not an issue?

We just stayed in the Vistana Villages last week and when we checked in, we were told that all of Florida's hotels/resorts have now gone to a "Smoking Option" plan. To tell you the truth, I'm not quite sure what that really means as we never did get a real answer, but this is what we were told.

All rooms are "smoking option" at the VV. What that means is that you are allowed to smoke on the balcony only - NOT in the room. No smoking in any room is allowed anymore - just on the balcony. I have a real sensitive nose but the one bedroom we stayed in had NO odor whatsoever! It was clean and very nicely appointed.

We moved over to the Boardwalk Villas and the only thing they had available were "smoking option" rooms. There was a slight odor in there but disappated with the air conditioning very quickly. In the old days, there were smoking and non-smoking rooms at the Disney resorts, but now they too refer to them as "smoking option", but they still offer totally designated non-smoking rooms, which VV does not.

I have read before that the timeshare places cannot offer totally non smoking rooms as people technically own the various weeks at the units so it is up to them whether they smoke or not.

Stayed at VV during June 2003 - had an absolutely fab time = accommodation first class !!!!!!!!! no complaints at all and not even a whiff of stale smoke. Don't worry just sit back and wait for your vacation - you really will not be disappointed.
