Hi, I"m new here and hope that someone can give me some advice regarding the rides. I'll be 14 weeks pregnant during our trip to WDW in December. Any advice about rides that are safe during pregnancy? The main one I'm interested is the Safari ride at AK. Is it really that bumpy? Should I just skip it? I am travelling with DH and DD (4yo). Do you think I'll be sitting on the benches a lot and having to pass on a lot of the rides? Any other tips?

Thanks so much,
Monique

hi Mama2tori,
The Safari is relatively bumpy in several spots, and I did notice on my last trip that there is a sign discouraging pregnant women from riding.
There will most definitely be signs warning you before you get on other questionable rides. I don't think you'll be sitting out on a heck of a lot of rides. Basically you'd be stuck sitting out of the thrill rides. There's plenty else for you to do. Because of back problems (ok, and because I'm a wimp!), I end up sitting out on the thrill rides, but have never found myself bored at WDW. We get fast passes for my DH for the rides that are "must dos" for him, and the time I spend waiting is pretty minimal.
If your DH is interested in riding the thrill attractions, he may be able to get on in a relatively short amount of time by doing the Fast Pass, by going through the single rider line, or by telling the CM at the attraction that he is willing to ride single.
Bring lots of water - rest when it gets hot (go back to the room and have a nap) and most important, have a great time! By the way....welcome to the DIS boards!

I rode the safari ride last year when I was 5 months pregnant.
It is bumpy but no worse than a bumpy car ride.
I also have back problems and didn't have any problems.
Have a great time!!. Make sure you're up for all the walking and standing in line:Pinkbounc

Welcome and congratulations!

Deb's WDW Info Guide has a whole page just for pregnancy tips, and it's a variety of pregnancy stages. If you're over the morning sickness, 14 weeks is probably a good time - my friends say that's when they stopped being tired and started feeling great!

DW was about 14 weeks last year... the only rides she did not do were Rock n Roller coaster, Space Mountain, Body Wars and Start Tours (doesn't like sim anyway). After ToT she said that she probably should have skipped this and did not go on again.

My doctor told me no rides to be on the safe side. I figure that they say that so that you're apt to opt out of the bigger rides. I'd steer clear of anything bumpy until your pregnancy is very well established (14 weeks is still kind of borderline for risk). I definitely wouldn't do tower of terror or any ride with a large drop. Stick to the kiddie rides mostly and you'll be just fine!

Have a wonderful trip and congratualtions on your new baby!

Well I have been on the safari ride many times and I don't think its too bumpy but don't do it if you'll second guess it , b/c then you will just feel quilty. I would do it and I am very protective about things like that. Have fun. I wouldn't do any of the other thrill rides.

I went on the Safari ride in 1999 when I was about 12 weeks. No problems. They tell you that to cover themselves. The ultimate decision is up to you, but I don't think that this ride poses much danger. We live in NJ and we get bigger potholes than they could ever create in Disney ;) Have a great trip!!

i was 8wks along on our 2001 trip.

i did ride the safari with no issues, it's no bumpier than a car ride as someone mentioned.

i skipped spinning (teacups) and drops (splash mtn) as well as the coasters and TOT. i also skipped all simulators (body wars, etc.)

while dh did the thrill rides i either rested (it was HOT in sept.) or did something else, for example he did space mtn while i rode the people mover thingy...the name escapes me. :)

i had a great time though, and you will too! congratulations and have fun!

oh, and drink TONS of water. your biggest risk at wdw is dehydration!
