Visiting WDW right before Star Wars opens?

We're going to Orlando the last week in September this year (school break). I'm still deciding between Disney or Universal (kids choice). Will the Star Wars area have any effect at all in visiting before it opens?
For example, would some people NOT visit Disney that month hoping to wait for Star Wars and could it be possible Disney offers some deals to get people to come before?

Absolutely. Based on all the deals (hotel discounts, free dining) announced recently and the release of the MNSSHP dates, all signs point to LOTS of people avoiding* Disney this year. If this continues, I expect more deals to be announced. And if the SWGE date slides...more deals still. Gotta fill those rooms! Really, if you aren't interested in being first in line for SWGE, this is an excellent time to visit Disney.

*correction - not avoiding until SWGE opens (then there are people passing on Disney for fear of SWGE swamping Disney). Until then it's people holding off until SWGE opens. So both sides but only one yields discounts (unless the SWGE people only care to do that land and skip the rest of Disney).

they did exactly that when they released the Free Dining promotion that is good for travel through Sept 30. I expect there will be other room deals to fill up the parks as much as possible before SWGE opens. Once they announce the dates of SW opening, I expect there's going to be a double rush: one set of people scrambling to make the trip down to see SWGE, and one set scrambling to squeeze in one more trip to avoid it altogether.

I'm hoping that I can squeeze one more trip in before it opens. We are going in November -Jersey Week- so, hopefully we just miss it. And if they are offering discounts, it's a double win! Oh, and if it's less crowded too....wow, that would be amazing.

This made me laugh. In the Simpsons movie there was a disaster happening and all the people in the bar ran to the church and all the people in the church ran to the bar! haha. I know you are being serious and I appreciate your input as well as the others. I know that the week I have off can be used for Universal at the last minute so I might wait and see what happens at WDW. I would LOVE to see the Star Wars setup as much as my kids. I saw the original Star Wars in the theater when it came out in '77 (not young here!) and still love most of those movies. But I can't imagine HS the months after that opens. Yikes.

HAHAHA yes!!!

Hubby and I are HUGE Star Wars fans, (our youngest was given a canon name) and we're exactly the type of people you'd expect to be in the initial rush. But I'm also a realist and know it's going to be a madhouse. The land isn't going anywhere, and it will be just as magical if we see it 3 years form now as it would be if we were there this year.
