Visiting the Dis boards just makes me sad...

....because I have no follow-up Disney trip planned  Almost a week after returning from our amazing Disney vacation, I can hardly bring myself to come here any more. Reading about people's upcoming trip plans just makes me melancholy. What do you post-trippers do to cure Disney blues? Do you think doing a trip report might help?

I want to go back right now! i'm so homesick for the world.

Why not start planning another trip? Even if you don't know when, you can still think about where you want to stay and what you want to do.

I would love to but as a grad student who is engaged to be married in the next year and a half, I don't think i'll have enough funds to cover another trip. Sigh.

Even so, i've been going on the Disney website and pricing a vacation next year. Now if i could only win the lotto...

Start planning another trip even if its not for a while. :thumbsup2 Our last trip to WDW was in May 2009. I've been planning this trip for a loooooong time. It is now only 2 weeks away.

Trip reports help me for sure. My current pre trip report hit its 2 year anniversary in August. :rotfl:

But what about a honeymoon? :scratchin

I completely understand... whenever I'm not planning a trip, I stay far away from the Disboards. In fact, I usually abandon these boards right after we get back, and I don't come back until we're planning another trip.

You're a grad student, and you're getting married. Start daydreaming about the life you're building, and the awesome future you're embarking on. Disney will happen again some day, but for now, it's time to take a break and find a new source of joy.

There are other communities out there, that aren't completely Disney-centric. Reddit's a great place to start, if you're just looking for people to talk to!

:grouphug:

I would try to read trip reports. I know that they helped me get over (well, if you ever really get over;)) the Disney blues from my last trip.

And a Disneymoon would be amazing too!:goodvibes

Thank you Magpie. I just need to keep my mind focused on our future since realistically, I really can't imagine us being able to afford another Disney trip for at least another 2 years or so. I guess I can refocus my dreams on how fun our future Disney trips will be as a married couple and later as parents with kids who will be completely immersed in the magic. I just wish this can happen sooner though.

I think I might have to go AWOL from the boards for a while.

My last trip was in 09. I may (may, may, may) be planning a trip for NEXT October. That is the only reason I came back to the boards. I was so depressed after our last trip I couldn't handle these boards for years, lol. Now with the teeniest, tinyest chance I may be able to go back over a year from now, I can stand it again! If you can't stand it, I understand! Just come back when you DO get to plan another trip.

I typically avoid the Dis right after my trip if I don't have another one to plan. It does make me sad, but I give it a break for a few weeks until I feel better. You will feel better, trust me!!

I was SO depressed all this week after returning from a wonderful week in the world last week. I mean REALLY depressed. It was almost ridiculous! Finally on Thursday I made DH promise we would go again in 2014 otherwise I would have gone mad without a trip to plan and look forward to. The very second he said "Of course we'll go again!" My depression cleared up.

The kicker? I work from home and have been trying to pick up a second part time job to fill the few hours during the day I have available so we could get rid of some debt etc. DH mentioned that if I got that second job we could go every year instead of every other. There is a job I have been stalking locally that is PERFECT! They offered me the job but haven't gotten back in touch with me about a starting date so I am in limbo waiting to hear from them. Ugh!

I'm with some others, I don't visit the boards unless I have a trip planned. I spend a lot of time on here when I first plan the trip, then I take a few months off, we are under 3 months now so I'm back. I rarely visit the boards after I get back.

Write a trip report
Make a scrapbook
Help somebody else on the Dis plan their trip

I understand what you are talking about. After having done an annual trip to the Orlando area for six years in a row and spending a lot of time on the boards (We typically do two vacations a year and Orlando was a pick for six years in a row), we don't have any plans to go back. DS is now 17 and has moved away from theme parks to other interests (Next year for spring break we're seeing a concert DS wants to see in Las Vegas and then spending a week in Sedona, AZ and for summer we're doing a camping trip in Yellowstone in the summer -- DS fondly remembers camping trips we did when he was little and wants to do one of these again with my brother and his family). And the year after we're just doing one trip (Kauai, HI -- DS's pick for High School graduation). The whole extended family is going on this one too. With airfares quite expensive for Hawaii it will just be one major trip that year vs. our normal two when we pick things that are not as expensive. He would still love Orlando, but it's just not a number one pick anymore, and I don't know when if ever, I'll be back.

I have had some Disney withdrawel (It's like a stage of my life -- a really fun stage has passed now and we had so many great times there). But I think I've finally gotten over that. What helped me was planning other mini weekend get-a-ways / trips. The truth is that I love to plan little trips that will be fun for the family whether or not they are Disney.

You do have so much to look forward to at this time. We all understand that feeling :grouphug: But even with all that other planning going on, take time out to start an itinerary, like plan where you want to eat, a certain snack that's a must have, a particular ride you just can't miss. All those things keep the magic alive and whatever you do...DO NOt go AWOL from the boards:flower3:

I think it's entirely a matter of personality. Some of us are happy dreaming of Disney for years... others find it makes us sad because we can't have it now and we don't know when we'll be able to have it in the future. My general approach to life is that is something is making me sad, I either fix or drop it.

Sadness is a clue that something needs to change. Doing more of what makes me sad isn't the right approach - for me. It clearly works for other people, though!

And fortunately there's many, many things in my life that make me happy. :goodvibes

As others have said, I don't look at the boards at all when I don't have a trip planned. And Disney occupies my thoughts less and less as other exciting things tend to happen.

But when I have a trip coming up, no matter how far in the future, I become totally obsessed, to the exclusion of almost everything else, and check the boards every five minutes. It's an illness, really... :hourglass

I'm back after an almost 3 year hiatus! :) Trip planned for January 2013! Expect multiple annoying posts from me until then!! :cool1:

I definitely get into that slump after a Disney trip, it sucks, home is not nearly as awesome and magical, and my breakfasts surely don't involve princesses or animals dressed in safari gear, lol!

However, I usually start organizing all my photos right away and wait for the photopass to get in before actually starting a trip report, but it's definitely something I do, and it really helps relive everything that happened, I honestly love writing them. I'll also spend some time reading other people's TRs, and of course, start planning my next trip! :lmao: (even if it's just an imaginary trip)
