We are planning a trip to NY to take in Beauty and the Beast and at least one more play. Does anyone know how succesful you can be getting tickets the last day at reduced prices or with the cancellation line or is it best to just prepurchase to guarantee seats?

Depends on how popular the show is. For something like B&B which has been there forever you could try the tkts booth (half price tickets) in Times Square, but you have to get there early or you might wait all day for them. Cancellations, you'd probably have to wait all day for at the theater and you're not guaranteed them. Possibly for B&B you could just walk up to the box office and buy, but you wouldn't get a discount, and you might not get a ticket if they're sold out for the night.

Check on www.playbill.com they have something called the Playbill Club where you can hear about some discounts on long-running or not so popular shows.

You can go to the TKTS booth at Times Square or near the UN building if you're not too picky about 1) the show, or 2) the location of your seats.

Sometimes you can luck into good tix, but if you have certain shows in mind that you just HAVE to see (like us), you can either join www.playbill.com, www.theatermania.com, http://home.nyc.rr.com/frugaltheatergoe/, www.broadwaybox.com and see what kind of deals they turn up- or check with your charge card websites.

Also, if you're a COSTCO member, there's a broadway section on their website too!

I'm in the midst of planning our annual anniversary trip to NYC in July, and am almost done with the big parts.

I'd be glad to help if I can!
