We are going on our first cruise...driving down from Atlanta the day before we sail. I think the kids would really enjoy the KSC, however I'm unsure if we will have time to go the day we sail. I was thinking of going for just a few hours, but I want to make the most of the time on the ship since it's only a 3 day cruise. Ideally, I want us to board the ship as early as possible and have a full first day enjoying what the ship has to offer.

Has anybody tried to squeeze this in as well or should we just hang at the hotel pool and sleep in that morning?

What time is your port arrival time? How about visting KSC after the cruise? Regardless, they won't show you the soundstage where they faked the moon landing. :)

MUN, the more of your posts I read, the more I officially love you! LOL! That said, we did this visit the day before our Dec. 14 cruise. I wouldn't try to do it the day of the cruise, but definitely the day before or on your return. Check opening hours, though, as they get you off the ship pretty early and KSC might not be open for several hours.

I think it may be way too much...maybe save that for another time! Thanks for responding!

Kennedy Space Center is a full day activity. I wouldn't try to squeeze it in.

We blundered into KSC on our first trip to Port Canaveral. Had no intent on going, but while out driving around started following signs and ended up going there. I regret not being there when it opened. It truly is an all-day experience.

We've been on debarkation day - picked up a rental car and went straight there. It had just opened. There was plenty to do for a full day before driving back to Orlando to check into our resort. Definitely wouldn't try and squeeze it in before the cruise, you would miss so much.

Yea checking it out the day you embark is a bad plan. It's about 30 minutes or so, which seems fine, but you have to remember that you have to be cleared to enter the port, then drop off your luggage, park the car, go through security, get checked-in, (maybe wait to board), board with an optional pre-cruise photo, then finally get on board. This whole process can take a little bit of time depending when you show up. Embarkation usually begins by 1130 at the latest. So if you have an early port arrival time, you would have to leave KSC by 1000. Just my $0.02

KSC would be best the day before cruising or the day you disembark the ship. It's definitely a full day affair and a cool place to check out, especially with the kiddos! Goportcanaveral.com has some packages for people driving in, includes a hotel stay, parking, and free cruise transfers to your terminal. I've only flown in and their service was great, give em a call they were to pretty helpful at customizing our package.
