Visiting in-laws(vent--you've been warned...)

Wow Cathy, You have such a full plate. You don't need anymore aggravation from "dense" in-laws". You were a saint to put up with them.

Awww, Cathy. I have a sibling who 'doesn't get it' and never will, so I can understand the stress and frustration.

I'm so sorry you had such an ordeal, and your poor kids and husband! I think you are making the right decision, continue the relationship you have with MIL (she is outside of all this).

If your SIL and BIL are going to be that way, then have them come to you instead.

Don't get me wrong, we love SIL and BIL. They are nice people and they really think of themselves as friendly and hospitable. They will be shocked and sad to hear that we aren't coming back and they really won't understand what they are doing wrong(how do you explain insensitivity to an insensitive person ) We aren't cutting ties with them, but we just aren't going to stay with them anymore. On the other hand, I've been dreaming of a nice vacation for a long time(they live very close to Destin, FL) and this may be just the thing that gives DH a reason to stay at the beach

Your SIL sounds like the prize that my FIL married after DH's Mom died. She got mad that we had a rental car in their driveway. She screamed at my DS because he was reading the newspaper on her dark mauve throw rug (what was I thinking? Doesn't everyone know that newsprint is the cause of every disease known to mankind?) They took us to the beach once. We weren't allowed to actually walk on the sand since we would have tracked it back into her house.

I can go on and on. We would make an annual trip to FL to see them, but it was just too stressful, and not reciprocated.

Trust me, you'll never regret stopping these visits. I would get myself all worked up before, during and after the trip. No trip, no stress.

She's gone now, but my Mom adored her grandchildren. I'm so happy that they had her in their lives.
