Visiting Fort Wilderness?

We are planning rest days during our stay to relax, enjoy pool and plan to pop out in the afternoon. We are traveling with a 3 and 8 year old and wondering about going to FW ( cab from akl to fw) to see the horses and do a pony ride( little one is horse mad) we can then grab some food ( q s?) and get the boat back to Mk if we feel up the park.
Any idea how the boat works on nights of Mnssp- Halloween?
Has anyone else done a visit? Any views or tips will help esp on travel time or food options

We visited FW last year and did horseback riding there. My tip would be to have some knowledge on how the internal bus system works so you can get around within the campground. We took a bus to FW and then after horseback riding we had to get to the other end of the campground for eating and the boat to MK. Unless we missed something, FW does not have a quick service like at the other resorts. It has more of an outside counter you can order something from with a few tables outside to sit at for eating.

The boat to MK should operate the same during the party as it would any other time. The only thing I can think of is that it might not run as often.

How long did it take you to get the bus from the pony rides to the dining/boat area?
How long do you think we should plan to stay? Would like daughter to ride a pony. Grab a snack at the counter and then head for the boat. 2.5 hours?
Are you glad you visited? And did it feel a change of pace from the parks?

Great place to visit! The bus is about a 10 min ride to the settlement. Pony rides and horses are there along with a shop, great playground, and restaurants. Trails end to go is the "quick service" there....lots of yummy options. 3 and 8 are perfect ages to visit the fort...they will love it! I would give it a good 2-3 hours. From the settlement you can take the boat to the MK. Have a great trip!
