Hi all,
This is not a typical trip report, but more of a summary of my visits and 1 day stay at the Polynesian - LVC. I was in Orlando for family matters, stayed offsite for most, but stayed LVC for my last day/night. I visited the resort during the entire trip, for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks at the Barefoot Bar.
Stayed in Hawaii room #3517, which has a great view. We stayed in that room 2 years ago, and still
is a "smoking optional" room. I really like the new design, not too dark for me, and it did not smell of smoke when I checked in.
I checked in at 9:30am on Tue.(11/15), and checked out at 1:00pm on Wed.
Notes/Observations: -auto room temp not cool enough for me. I forgot my notes on how to manually reset the room temp.
-used high speed Internet access from my room for a $9.99 fee
-shower head is lower than norm. OK for me since I'm only 5'7'' (on a good day)
-new TV is awesome, remote control skips 2 channels when surfing
-old lamps still above beds
-Chef Dick doing well, nothing happening with his fruit carving class, put on hold due to
a possible complete revamp of the concierge menu. The menu change may happen in December,
or it may not - it's up to the executive chef. He doesn't like the island in the lounge, he is unable
to see the guests in the room.
-the lounge is cramped, even though it came out very nice. The couches by the window seem to be wasted space, which leads to less room for the same # of tables.
-I like the Boutiki shop. Polynesian merchandise for sale - T-shirts, long sleeve shirts, tank tops, hooded shirts, 2005 XMAS ornament (I was told back in April they stopped making these), shot glasses, mugs, pens, picture frames, and beach towels. Overall, more than usual, but I would still like to see some Polynesian hats. For me, too much Lilo + Stitch.
-'Ohana - ate there Saturday night. The place was packed, but only had to wait 15 minutes for my PS.
Didn't like the shrimp, but the glazed wings were outstanding. Very busy, staff was exceptional.
-Tim at the Barefoot Bar was great. He is the dude with the messed up neck and back. Tough job to
have when you can barely walk. Watched Patriots/Miami game there on Sunday, and hung out Tue and Wed.
-ate lunch at Kona on Wed(11/16), had the Asian Noodles with chicken and vegetables. It was the Pan-Asian pasta on the old menu, but they call it something different now. It was AWESOME.
-didn't notice any construction except for the new Wyland Galleries, located where the News from Civilization use to be. It is almost ready to open, I'd say within a week. There was one guy doing some exterior painting to the decks on the volcano pool side of Samoa. Just an older guy painting by himself.
Well, that's all I can think of for now. I found myself missing the family, and thinking back on some of our best memories at the resort, starting with our first trip in 1996.
