My oldest friend (who lost her husband around Memorial Day (I posted about this - broke my heart) came to WDW with her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. They spent a week there and then took off to spend a night with former neighbors in Ft. Myers. My friend came to my house and we drove to my sister's in St. Pete Beach. I haven'tseen my sister in quite a while. We had lots of laughs and lots of tears. My sister knew George.

Anyway I was inspecting my sister's garden. She is 79 and has incredible energy. The grapefruit tree (which had the BEST grapefruit) was gone - a victim of wild parrots which have flooded the area and destroy fruit trees. The roses and other plants were gorgeous and the dolphins were swimming in the causeway that is at the front of her house. I admired a plant and she told me it was a datura which I have seen in catalogs. Supposed to have a wonderful aroma but I didn't like it and my sister said she didn't either. But the flower is beautiful. She said it is easy to grow by seed and pulled out a seedling from the garden which I will plant today. I think when I have seen these in catalogs it says to put outside in the summer (in the north) and bring in the house for the winter. The flower is huge, purple and white and some flowers are double. She offered me something called Mexican petunias which she says bloom all year and spread rapidly to make a good groundcover. She has a night-blooming cereus (Spelling??) which the local newspapers take pictures of. When we arrived she came out with a huge platter of pickled shrimp and kept pressing various sandwiches. We had dinner at something called Philthy Phils. Cheap and delicious. She made a huge breakfast and then I took Dee to the airport in Orlando. I have not been driving at all - Roy insisted on doing all the driving on the way from New Hampshire and I have gotten so lost around here I have only gone a mile or so to the supermarket.

We laugh when we remember George and the pranks he pulled and the way he teased everyone. And then we cry. All in all a great weekend.

Marlamom sounds like a lovely weekend with loved ones. Thanks for sharing your laughter and tears with us.

I remember your post about your friend George, Marlasmom. I'm so glad to hear that his DW, you, and your DS had such a special weekend together. Laughing, crying, and healing.

Good luck with your datura and Mexican petunias! Let us know how they do. :)

Your DS's garden sounds very nice!! I also admire her energy level, wow! :)
