Virtual Schools??

considering this option for one of my kids. In my state, it looks like they are only taking enrollment till 3/12 so I am getting VERY Close to the cutoff. Chances are, we won't be sending dd back to school at all (long story, in another thread) if we don't have to. How long does the enrollment process take? If I start enrollment on Monday (3/8), and it takes a month, what am I going to do?! DH Is wishy washy on this whole idea, so I told him the deadline and have to wait for him to make his choice. I've made mine, as has dd11.

I enrolled my 2nd grader mid-year into OHVA (k12 in Ohio) Once I got all the paperwork in (which I faxed in) it just took a few days for them to get him set up. IMO it was very quick (thankfully). hth

My enrollment took about a week. If you make contact fill in the forms, have on hand the Birth certificate, a document to where you live like a rent agrement, mortgage, taxes, etc. There was online enrollment, so as soon as we started the turn around was days. When done online and fax it is much faster then mailing everything.

Been there done that knew dd would not be going back. That was 6th grade. She is 2nd year now.
You are certainly in the time line. The hardest part is jumping off the diving board not knowing what lies in the water below.
I always felt that home schooling was not my best option as life is far to crazy and unstructured right now,
But dd needed education and she is getting a quality one structured for her at this cyber school.

Keep us posted,

If your DD wants to learn a foreign language, I love www.livemocha.com It is free to use and has many different languages.

Thank you, worm761!! We have Rosetta Stone, but it only works on one computer at a time, so this is a fantastic supplement. There are problems with the free version (I ran into weak grammar support), but the social networking aspect blows RS out of the water. My 3yo gives it two thumbs up, she likes listening to the French phrases paired with the pictures. For those considering RS (which, contrary to the ads on Livemocha, may end up cheaper than the pay version of LM), the interphase is very similar, so get a feel for it on LM to see what you think.

As a non-virtual language learning aside: I did Concordia Language Villages, which are full immersion summer camps in numerous languages, and the cost was very reasonable. For the European languages they have beautiful villages built in that nation's style which reminded me of Epcot. We're saving to do the family camp in 2011. It's frankly a VERY cheap vacation for everything that you get from it.
