Virgin's Downtown Disney Check-In

Sounds great to drop off the bags, but what about the car seat for our little munchkin,we intend to do a last day at the parks, then head off to the airport ,can we just hand over the car seat on boarding the plane like the buggy ??.

Just to confirm regarding Downtown check-in.

I used it on Sunday. It opens from 8:30am until 1:00pm to cover all the evening/night flights. Located to the left of big white tent and Disney Quest. Be careful about parking just outside to unload your baggage as local police regularly come alone and issue tickets. Parking is a few feet further and plentiful.

You queue up and meet security who ask you the normal questions about your baggage and your flight number. Your then ask to place your hold baggage outside the relevant white truck to your flight. Once at the desk they check your passport and flight tickets. If your a Virgin Holidays Customer there is no charge, if not, they ask for $5 per non-VH passenger.
Your then issued your boarding cards and away you go.

We wore t-shirts and shorts for the rest of the day, but had a change of warmer clothes each in our hand luggage. Our flight VS50 was not until 8:00pm, so we went shopping, all you can eat buffet lunch at Las Vegas Buffet and a swim at Typhoon Lagoon. Got to the airport for 6:00pm and airside by 6:30pm.

We use it every time we fly from Orlando.
If you are flying Virgin Atlantic, not taking the Virgin holidays package, i.e. book the flights separately (sp? never get that word correct) and if you are in Economy or Premium Economy, you have to pay $5 per person. In Upper Class you do not.

As we have the car seat, we check in all the other bags apart from the Slazenger cricket bag and when dropping off the car take the bag to the Check in desks at MCO and check the final bag in there.

Only problem we have ever encountered is that they do not have the nice purple boarding passes and give you the normal red ones, which does get sometines the "Are you sure you are in the right queue sir" at the boarding gate :-(

We got on great with it. Just handed over the downtown check-in vouchers and no problems at all. We parked the cases in front of the right truck as told us and when we'd gone through the check-in process the lady behind the desk came out and put the tickets on the cases and that was it. We did last minute shopping and had more hand luggage than we should but was not questioned one bit. We spent our last morning in disneyquest and watched Star Wars - Revenge of the Sith at the AMC cinema downtown which finished at 3.45pm (our flight 6.25pm) - got petrol, dropped off car at airport and went through security with no questions or problems at all. We were at the boarding gate an hour before boarding and got a starbucks frapucchino to finish the holiday off. The whole thing was really easy and I'd thoroughly recommend use of the facility. This was the first time we were able to use it and it was our 4th time in Orlando!

As they allocate seats at dtd check-in, do they aim to give you your pre-booked seat assignments, in the same way they do at regular check-in? Can you be assigned to exit row seats here if requested? Also, slightly off topic, but regarding Virgin flights, do they charge for exit row seats, if so how much and is it worth the extra?

Thanks
