We are planning on going to Virginia Beach this year. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations on where to stay. We will probably be staying in a hotel, since I don't think we can swing the price of a condo. We would like to be only a block or 2 from the beach.

We also are planning a trip to Williamsburg. Would love to hear if this is a one or two day type visit? If 2 days then we will also need recommendations on where to stay there also.

Thanks....

There are tons of hotels in the area. By area I mean near the ocean. There are lots of name brand hotels that are oceanfront and fine. There are some independently owned hotels that are oceanfront that are fine too. Most of those are no frills.

DH and I go to Virginia Beach a lot and I swear have stayed just about everywhere down there. I wouldn't stay at the Sea Gull again. The rest were fine.

Williamsburg can be as many days as you want. What do you plan to do in the area? Are you outlet shopping? Going to the colonial part? Going to Busch Gardens and Water Country?

We plan on only doing the historical part of Williamsburg.

Thanks for the hotel information. We went 11yrs ago, but can't remember where we stayed. I do remember we enjoyed the military beach we found more than the boardwalk area.

You might try the Sandbridge Beach area. It is about 15 minutes from Virginia beach. We've rented some houses there and they have not been super expensive. The cost is off set some by having a kitchen and a grill. It's nice to sit on the deck and watch the ocean and grill a burger a few of the nights. Plus the beach is pretty much only used by the residents. It's a great family atmosphere.

Williamsburg is a one day trip unless your planning to do Busch Gardens or activities such as golf where you need to spend another day. It's extremley rich in history so if you enjoy being immersed in old culture then you could possibly swing another day.

We stayed at the Springhill Suites on Richmond Road in Williamsburg last summer. It was new and clean and we will definately stay there again. It's not far from the historical area and there are many places to eat all around it.

VA Beach has greatly improved their boardwalk area over the last several years. It's very inviting now, about 15 years ago I thought it was pretty trashy.

The last time we stayed on the beach was about 10 years ago and we stayed at the Holiday Inn Sunspree, it was very nice at that time.

I believe during the summer months the houses in Sandbridge only rent by the week.

We are going in July and staying 3 nights while my niece performs at the convention center. I booked the Howard Johnsons as the rate was reasonable, it got decent reviews, it's oceanfront and close to the convention center. Hopefully it won't be too bad, we probably won't spend too much time in the room anyway.

My family and I went to VA Beach over Easter in 2005. We stayed at the Fairfield Inn & Suites. The price was really good and it was right on the beach. Each room has their own private balcony. It was very well maintainedand the staff was great. Plus, they had a full, hot, complimentary breakfast every morning.

One plus? We got to see dolphins. It was awesome. We sat on our balcony and watched the dolphins swim in and out of the surfers. They came so close to shore. We also let our sliding door open at night so we could sleep to the sound of the waves. It was a great trip.

Have a great time!

ETA - THIS is the exact hotel we stayed in.

Thanks for the information.

I forgot about Busch Gardens. I will also look into the Sandbridge area. Glad to hear that the boardwalk has improved.
