Virgin seating assignments??

Forgive me, this is NOT Disney related, but my family and I want to go to London next summer and we're checking fares on Virgin. Can someone tell me, are seats assigned when tickets are purchased?

Some seats can be reserved up to 336 days in advance.

Thank you, but can you be more specific? Is it based on how many seats have already been sold and class of service? Will I be given the option of choosing the seats at time of purchase??

No you won't be able to choose the seats as you purchase, but you can go onto the Virgin Atlantic website and request (rather than reserve) the ones that you want. Even a request does not guaruntee that you will actually get the seats you have asked for (we've been lucky 5 out of 6 times).

You can also choose or change your seats when you check in (online or otherwise).

If you purchase Online or over the phone via Virgin Atlantic, you are given the option to assign your seats after the payment screen. You can also do this later on on "Manage My Flights" section of their website.
Some seats such as bulkhead and exit rows cannot be reserved until either on the day or via Special Assistance dep't should you require it.

I'm with Dimplnose on this. It's merely a request and recently there have been a lot of instances where people have been moved, and sometimes moved again.

This might be temporary blip as Virgin have changed the seats that you can pay extra for, but it is no way a reservation and shouldn't be taken for granted.

We chose our seats online after we booked our fligh and both were changed when i went back into the site to check just before we went.

Virgin couldn't do anything about it so we just had to wait until check in and ask then for the seats back. we didn't get them back though - they told us they were already reserved which i have to admit was a little annoying!

The exact same thing has just happened to friends of ours. They requested the seats last October and they stayed 'chosen' until last Friday. They fly next week.
