Just a reminder that if you ever have to cancel a 'non refundable' flight you can still claim back all the taxes etc. I recently had to do this and for a 370 pound flight got 250 back.

Did you cancel or just no show? Did you get the refund automatically or did you need to claim?

Is this the case with any flights?

Yes, the airline only has to pass the taxes on to the government if the traveller actually takes the flight.

Some low cost carriers levy a service fee to cover the cost of returning the taxes - surprisingly the fee is exactly the same as the value of the tax to be returned. :rolleyes1

And it's about the only time when you're pleased that the fuel surcharge is high!
