we are going to use the online check-in system when we go away in sept. when you check in online, do they give you your seat numbers (we have already requested them on the seatmap online) or do you get those on arrival at the airport. also do you print out your own boarding passes, or do they give you those at the bag drop? TIA

You will get your seat numbers when you do online check-in, however, they may not be the ones you requested, since they are just that - requests. No seats are guaranteed.

If you have the facilities, you can print your boarding card when you do online check-in. However, if you have no printer, you can still check-in but will get given your boarding card when you do bag drop.

We used the online check in this morning for our flight tomorrow. Once you have typed in information such as passport details and where you are staying in the USA, they then give you your seat numbers. We got the same seats that we requested from 6 months ago, but they do give you the option to change these seats if you so desire. We then printed out our boarding cards. You don't have to print them out, but we thought it would save a few minutes at the airport. Hope this helps.

thanks. i realise i might not get the seats i requested, but at least i'd know 24 hours in advance rather than just 2.

is it possible to do OLCI the day before and then if you're at the airport early enough can you change them to the extra leg room seats.

I assume that you cannot request extra leg room seats when you do OLCI

Depending on which Gatwick flight you are on, Online checkin opens earlier than the twilight checkin.
You can do both if you are staying down overnight, online to reserve your seats, then twilight to get rid of most of your cases.

If not, then even if you do online checkin, the next day you have to queue up to get rid of your cases.

Some with SN children will be able to comment more accuratly, but I would not leave it until day of flight as if there are many families, you could miss out.
have you spoken to Virgin Special assistance? There is (was?) a special checkin desk for disabled families as I recall
