I have read the Virgin info about online check in but haven't heard about the experiences of anyone who has actually done it.

Do you you just need passport numbers and booking references? I was hoping to check in for my friends too but will not have access to their passports, but I could get their numbers.

Any experiences to share?

Hi Mandy

I have not done this myself, but if you check down the board a bit themurrayfamily did this before they went on Saturday. From what I remember they thoroughly recommended it. Come to think of it, they are most probably still at Gatwick if you want to drive down and ask them!!!

hey cladagh

lookis like we are going around the same time by the looks of our timers

Thanks for all the replies. I knew themurrayfamily were going to use online checkin but I couldn't find a post from them AFTER they had done it. Anyone know if they reported back?

I am definitely going to give it a try anyway.

We are going to give this a try too but it would be great to know if anyone has used it before:Pinkbounc

We used the online checkin prior to our trip in July. You are required to enter your passport details for each passenger in your group. You then get your seats, which in our case were different to the ones I had prebooked, but just as good. On arrival at Gatwick the next day there were the usual long queue's at the regular checkin desks but none at the DIY desk. I don't think the actual process once at the desk at Gatwick was any shorter, but as we did not have to wait in line who cares?. I suspect that as it catches on you will probably find queues at the DIY desk, but nothing compared to the normal check in's.

Thanks Toonboy, it sounds good. Was it just the full name and passport number needed to check in online? Or did you need barcodes and expiry dates?I am hoping to get my friends' info and do it for all of us as they will be at work.

Thanks for your help

If I remember , you needed passport numbers and dates of birth. I think you may have needed the passport expiry date as well, but not much more. Although you can check other people in, I think they must appear under the lead passenger's booking reference. If your friends booked seperately you may need their booking reference as well as passport details.
Hope this helps

so, is the diy checkin available everywhere, e.g. Manchester not just Gatwick?

And am I right in thinking that you can only use it the day before you fly?

Thanks
