Virgin online check in

Can somebody tell me what the procedure for online check in is: if u check in online does that mean you dont have to go to airport 3 hours before flight? and also do u go to a separate desk just to drop bags off or do u still get in big queue? and also where do u collect boarding cards?

You have to drop your bags off at least 60 minutes before departure. However, Virgin advise that you should be at the bag drop 2.5hrs before departure, so it isn't much saving on the 3hrs. There is a separate Bag Drop desk. When we flew in May, the queue for the Bag Drop was much longer than for the check-in. To be honest, I think the whole thing is designed to make life easier for Virgin rather than their passengers.

If you have a printer, you can print your boarding cards. Otherwise you will collect them at Bag Drop. Although when we checked in online for our return flight, for some reason it didn't offer the option of printing boarding cards - I don't know if that is standard, or because of where we were checking in, or if it was a computer glitch.

We flew in October and the bagdrop queue was empty while the other queue was enormous. I'm not sure it saved us any time but we did have our seat numbers in print before we arrived at the airport which gave me one less thing to worry about. Secondly, it took us about 1 and a half hours to get through security so we didn't have any time worries because of the short queue.

Does anyone know if this is available from Orlando as well? I kind of assumed it would be.

Basically as we have booked flydirve I wasn't sure if we could still check-in at downtown disney as we have done previously. If we couldn't do that we didn't want to leave it to chance that we get seats together later on

You can still check in at DTD - if you're with VH you get it free, if you're with VA only you have to pay ($10 p/p i think?)

You can check in online for the homebound leg. You can even check in online and then use Downtown Disney to get rid of your bags if that suits you.

Checking in online doesn't seem to save any time at the airport - they still go through exactly the same process - but as chocolateMinnie points out, you can at least sort out your seating at the earliest possible opportunity.

We used OLCI again 1st August from Manchester and again saved us time. We arrived a little earlier than usual, we like to arrive 90 mins to departure but it was 2 hours last month, only 1 family in front of us, 10 mins from arriving to leaving the desk, another 10 mins thru security. 20 mins from arriving to departure lounge, I have heard others say its not good but apart from 1 Xmas day flight when system was down its been great for us.
