Both Virgin flights today - VS27 and VS15 - late going out again

VS27 should have gone at 11.15 but did not go until 12.39

VS15 should have gone at 12.45 but did not go until 6.23 p.m.

What is going on. An hour late fair enough although not perfect but over 5 hours is taking the mick.

Anyone know reason for delays

Oh goodness that is terrible. I usually only fly Singapore Air to New Zealand and we have never been late taking off. Last Christmas we went Air New Zealand and were late leaving, I had fed Cullen to sleep and by the time we took off he had woken up. Luckily he was ok sitting on my knee for that take off time. 5 hours is crazy I would be so grumpy by the time of take off and then still have 9 hours of flight to go. Plus getting in 5 hours later would put us nearly in the middle of Orlando night.

My best mate Carolyn's staying at the Gatwick Hilton tonight and flying out tomorrow morning, first flight on her own with the kids - hubby should be waiting for them at MCO ..... so fingers crossed there's no delays!

I am trying to think if I have ever been on a Virgin flight that took off on time. Can't think of one - but never been that many hours late!

Do you know Mikki ....... and I really shouldn't say this ....... we have never been delayed by more than 15 minutes!

Planes are always shabby and Virgin really are over-rated IMHO but delays have never really been a problem ...... that said ..... we're on the late flight in August so we're expecting them this year ... fingers crossed xxx for us and for my mate Carolyn!

Iv flown on the 12.45 flight twice and both times it was 4-5 hours late :(

We first flow with Virgin last year and the flight was delayed both ways. It is a bit disappointing going out but coming home we more than welcomed the delay.

Our flight was due to live at 6.30 pm and didn't depart till 10.30 pm. As we had taken advantage of early checkin at Downtown Disney we were aware of the problem early on and was told not to arrive till airport till 7 pm. We were overjoyed because it gave us another full day at Universal and made up for being delayed going out (2 1/2 hours). We also for the first time didn't suffer from jet lag because the flight was at 10.30 pm we were tired enough to sleep on the plane, this made life a whole lot easier when we returned.

Personally I am hoping for a delay coming back because of the reasons given. Going now we expect a delay and have again booked up in the Executive Lounge to make the wait as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, as it is the beginning of the holiday.:)

Just spoken to my friend at the airport, check-in advised that yesterdays delay was due to a technical fault. The flights due in around 2.30ish and they should be away by 4.30. Virgin have given them vouchers to the value of £10 each for food.

VS27 is estimated to have a 60 min delay.
VS15 is estimated to have a 225 min delay! (VS16 was 360 mins late taking off).

You can find all live and historic flight times at this site:

http://www.flightstats.com/go/Home/home.do

You need to register but it's free :)

Select Flight - Status from the menus and enter airline and flught details and you can keep a check on the flight status.

You can also look at historic data and performance on individual routes or flights :)

After our new years flights we have decided to try thomsonfly this trip. Virgins track record this past year has been horrendous, they never used to have delays like they do now. Our 8 flights over the last 14 months have all been delayed by a min of at least at an hour.
The last flight was 8 hrs (OK they flew into a pelican in Tobago and had to get the plane fixed) but the return was 2 hours late and it got into Orlando on time, the ground staff were just super slow.

I'm praying that we get a better flight with thomsonfly. :goodvibes

I have to admit that in 10 years flying to Orlando with Virgin we have never had problems with late flights until 2 weeks ago. Our flight out was called and as they were doing this an unexploded WW11 bomb was found in digging works being carried out near by. BAA made them move the plane out to the tarmac and we were bused out. Consisdering that all this happened at the last minute and they had to arrange buses etc we were still only just over an hour late leaving. Can't really complain about that.

I wouldn't like to be stuck for 5 hours though.

I am now scared - flying with Virgin for the first time from Glasgow on 12th April......anyone have any word on whether delays are similar from Glasgow or are the problems just with London?

You can look up today, yesterday and tomorrow's flights on Virgin's website. Just click on flight times on the left hand pane and put in the relevant info - could be useful nearer the day you fly to have a look what has been happening.

The only significant delays that we've suffered were the last time we flew to MCO in Nov 06. The flight out (from Gatwick) was delayed by an hour due to awaiting clearance from US Homeland Security, and the return was delayed by an hour because they couldn't reconcile the number of boarding cards with the number of heads - not very reassuring, coming so soon as it did after the latest terrorism scare.

Hoping for better when we fly from Manchester next week.

we got back late yesterday on vs 16 from mco!! we took off around 10pm instead of 19:40
