Virgin flying club miles

I I ve got a tonne of virgin flying club miles to use up. 160,000 ish so want to book flights. I understand they are quite tricky to use. Anyone know how soon before a flight they become available?

We have used our miles before to fly to orlando or vegas and not had a problem .they some times have special offers on miles for premium economy.If you go to virgin atlantic and try to book a flight there are the choices at the bottom for
using miles .

I believe they are only redeemable on certain fare codes but we have got miles plus money without too much hassle.

There is only a limited amount of reward seats released per flight and not on all flights, for our flight this year I booked on the day they were released, I just kept looking everyday.
We wanted PE seats but couldn't get any for our return date from Orlando so have to fly back from Miami.
Log into you flying account and if you do a dummy booking you can see dates that are available with the miles.

We've used roughy that many to fly one way in upper class this year on Virgin. I've yet to buy a return flight as I don't want to come home but aer lingus is looking favourite at the moment.

Last time I checked there were some August outbound flights in Upper still left!

Just checked and 140,000 will get you outbound for just the taxes in early August (from manchester anyway)

We have booked twice with VA air miles. We have never had a problem getting what we wanted when we wanted BUT we do always go out of season at the beginning of November!

Upto around 2-3 years ago we never had a problem using them, last few years more difficult in school hols.
We have a similar amount plus we will have another 27,000 after this years trip. I am earning around 2,000 per month doing e-reward questionnairs and get around 500-1000 per month from my VA credit card. So by the end of this year I expect we will have around 200,000 between us.Hopefully use them in next year or so now we are not tied to school hols.

Great thanks people that's given we a lot more confidence. Means I can plan that I will do everything myself and use the miles for our flights. Will try and book as soon as they are available and it ll be out of school holidays so hopefully should be smooth and we re pretty flexible.

Got 160k miles (will be more like 180k after latest flights) from saving them for a longgggggg time. Probably six years or so plus a virgin credit card. Tried doing the surveys wanyeg mentioned but lost patience with them. It's been a long slog to get enough to get enough for hopefully premium return for the three of us.

Sorry for hijacking and going slightly off topic but I was wondering if any of you have an opinion as to whether it is better to use a Virgin credit card for miles or a Tesco clubcard credit card and convert points to miles?

I've just signed up for the surveys but not had any yet.

You have to be invited to join as far as I know. Its not something you can apply for. I have had loads to do the past 6 months, earned around 12,000 miles but it can be very time consuming if you do every one.

Just had a quick look, still same as its always been, membership is by invitation only by one of their sponsors. VA probably emailed you about it and you clicked the link from there.

Just remembered why I stopped doing it. I always got the invites through at work for surveys and if I didn't click within a minute or so (so couldn't wait to get home) they ran out of spaces.

Has anyone else had this issue or get round it?

Maybe I should try it again as I think I will need about 220,000 miles for return premium economy flights for two adults a child of 3/4 and an under 2. Worked out more miles than I thought it would be (when I put a token date in)

They are hit & miss, some stay valid for a while others gone as soon as the email arrives but I still get enough to do.
