I don't think you're being selfish and certainly didn't suggest it 
Virgin will not usually allow seating arrangements like this - normally parties have to be sat together - it was just a suggested explanation !
We're a family of 4 and I hate being put in the middle of the plane. We all like different seats for different reasons - my DB loves the middle 4 cos they can put the kids in the middle, put the armrests up and spread out.
I've requested two sets of two because that's what suits us best and because I have the wherewithall to get my request in early whilst they are still available. Selfish or not
