to Orlando International. Do they fly from South Terminal or North. Does anyone know? I seem to remember it being south last year but don't want to assume.

Also, can anyone recommend a good (reasonably priced) hotel for an overnight stay the night before our flight.

Virgin fly from the south teminal - don't forget to make use of the check in service the night before!!

For reasonalble priced hotel try the ramada, holiday inn or holiday extras websites!!

How does this work exactly?

Check in online, right? Then what turn up at the airport and hand in bags? How do you save time? Can you arrive at the airport later?

If you check-in the night before you get rid of your luggage, have your boarding passes and turn up at the airport an hour before your flight time the next morning. It's great. It's also well worth paying the $5 per person and using DTD check-in on your departure day as well.

As for hotels for the night before we've always booked through www.holidayextras.co.uk. We stayed at the Hilton right on the airport doorstep but we actually preferred the Holiday Inn which we've also stayed at.

If you are flying with Virgin, they operate Twilight Check-In. You check in as you normally would but the night before. Means you don't have to queue the next day and can arrive later at the eirport before your flight (we only had to be there an hour before last year).

We stay at The Meridian, it's at the North Terminal, but only 2 mins on the shuttle.

twilight check in is 12 oclock noon till 9 oclock in the evening.
we usually stay at the hilton then in the morning just walk through the adjoining tunnel and you are in the airport. :sunny:

Also.. I *think* ALL international flights go from the South Terminal.

Can you combine twilight check-in AND DIY check-in?
What I mean is, I will be staying overnight at Hilton, Gatwick, but would it be possible to do the online check-in 24hrs beforehand and then just hand in my bags during the twilight check-in?
The reason being that I really want to get my requestion seats (one of the pairs towards the back of the plane as there are only two of us), and 24hr check-in may be an easier way to get this, but I still want to drop my bags off the evening before we go. If I wait and just do twilight check-in, someone may have nabbed those seats!
(of course, I could wait 'til we get to the airport and request exit-row seats - we're both young, fit and able-bodied, so maybe we should try for it..)

As you can see, I'm a bit OC about the whole thing! :rotfl:
(my first 'no-parents' holiday)

VSL, if you're flying with Virgin you should be able to pre-book your seats by phoning Virgin Atlantic direct. I have already pre-booked our seats for our September flight (think you can do it 160 days before).

Sorry, I don't have the number but you can probably get it off the website.

You can request seats in advance but they can, and do change them - particularly on the Orlando flights it seems - though we've always been lucky.

I thought this was now free for Virgin holiday makers?

I was wondering about the checking in online thing - I assume you can do it and then just ditch your luggage when you get there. We got to gatwick at 7pm last trip and there was no one at the check in desk - and we got the seats we wanted.

i;ve pre booked this year but there are 9 of us travelling so it would be useful to make sure we all sat together...

...

It was when we went in December - we got the vouchers with our holiday documents and just redeemed them. However if you aren't booked through Virgin Hols but are flying with Virgin, it is definitely worth that $5 each anyway :)

We are flying to Orlando with BA in two weeks time from the North Terminal :)

Yes, I did the seat request thing, but that's all it is - a request :)

I am flying with Virgin in November but haven't booked the whole of my holiday with them, i take it we can still use the twilight check in both this end and at disney?

Depends on the airline - all Virgin flights are from South Terminal, and virtually all BA flights from North (I think they have a couple of partner airlines and maybe one other route flying from south).

yes you can still do this.
twilight check in at gatwick is between 12 oclock noon and 9pm.
not sure of the times for check in at dtd . but i think it's between 9am and 1pm. (and if you have not booked with virgin holidays, and only booked flights with virgin atlantic , it will be $5 each)

Kristie, you have lost me completely here!

Someone said that they *thought* all international flights from Gatwick were from the South Terminal, and I replied that my BA flight to MCO was from the North. (ie that is a international flight and not going from South Terminal)

I may be totally missing your point and I'm sorry if I am (it's been a very long day today LOL)

Cheers

Many thanks for your comments Obi. Yes, I am perfectly well aware that a short search on the net could have provided the answer but thought, as I wanted to ask for hotel recommendations too, I may aswell kill two birds etc.

Apologies if you feel I have wasted your time - but I suspect it took just as long for you to find the answer, type your reply and add the link as it did for someone who already knew the answer to type a reply :teeth:
