We are travelling with Virgin ecomony on the 5th feb 04, can anyone please tell us what entertainment is provided on the flight, ie tv programmes, films etc. how are they with the kids what do they provide for them. Am already worried about the flight. Many thanks in advance Wendy.

You needn't worry Wendy, Virgins in flight entertainment is pretty good even on the older planes in it's fleet, on the newer ones, it's even better !.

The actual system you get does depend on which plane is being used on your route - the newer the plane the better the entertainment system. All planes have seat back tv monitors for every individual passenger.

I'm not absolutely sure, but I believe the most basic system, used on the standard 747, has at least 6 film channels, 2 to 4 Tv channes, and various radio and audio channels also. On 747-200's, you get more channels plus the option of Nintendo video games controoled by a pop out controller stored in the seat arm that also works the TV channels. I haven't travelled on a 747-400, but I believe they have up to as many as 18 film channels, more tv and games, and a few other niceties. I don't know what system is used on Airbus planes.

Kids get a backpack on entering the plane that has various stuff in it to keep them entertained, and there is always some programming aimed at kids.

Checkout the link below for more info on In-flight programming direct from Virgin:

I hope this helps ! :)

In light of what has been on the news recently you may well have the pilot organising a sing-song.

Only kidding. By all accounts Virgin has one of the best in flight
entertainment packages.

Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,

How can I find out which of the planes listed on Virgin's website fly out of Manchester?

At the moment, Virgin have a 747 -200 flying out of manchester to orlando. These are older planes than the ones flying out of gatwick but they have the advantage of having nintendo games on them.

Virgin entertainment systems are very good but - as already stated - it does vary depending on the type of aircraft you fly on.
Certainly on the Jumbo 747-400 and Airbus planes you do get more channels.
We fly from Manchester where an older 747 is usually used, but the entertainment is still good, having said that keeping a 7 year old boy happy for 8 hours we very rarely get to enjoy the full benefit anyway!

Not quite sure why us Northerners get the older aircraft?

I couldn't agree more JohnnySharp,

Surely Manchester must be due a change of plane in 2004 especially with virgin running a full winter flight programme now.

We had a 5 hour delay Nov 02 due to them fitting several new parts to get an engine working, really makes you want to fly when you've just watched them doing all this:hyper:

Come on Virgin give us a newer plane!!

OH NO!

I wish I'd never asked. I'm scared of flying (or crashing), and the last thing I need to hear is that we will be on an old plane,
:scared1: even if it does have Nintendo

Maybe us northerners will get lucky this year, (and boy am I due some luck), and be allocated a newer plane. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed, or I may need some more anaesthetic ;)
