We have booked with Virgin flying Nov 29th and are staying near Gatwick the night before. The question is we are thinking of checking in our baggage the night before. What do others think of this? Is it worth doing as I have been told you don't have to check in in the morning until about an hour before? We drive from S. Wales Wednesday night and estimate it will take us 4 hours to get to Gatwick.:thumbsup2

We always do this and will be doing so again when we GO 19TH November, its so much easier. You check bags in night before, don't forget to take hand luggage with you also as they normally check these too but put a sticker on them. You then get given your boarding pass. So the next day you walk straight through and show boarding pass's before secreity check and away you go:)

Hi Martin

We always do this too. We have a long drive up like you, we're from Swansea. We usually check into the hilton and then go check our bags in the bag drop, this can sometimes take a bit of time even though you might of checked in on-line.
We usually leave the hotel with about 1 1/2 to spare, just enough time to get a mcdonalds brekkie go through security a stop at Whsmith, then head to the gate. If your going to check your bag in you will need a bit longer than an hour.

It makes it very relaxing on the morning of your flight as it can be stressful if you dont check in the night before. It gives you more time in duty free:rotfl2:

I definitely recommend it

Hi, we are travelling from Manchester this time, which is a pity as they don't do the twilight check-in, but it is closer. We have travelled from Gatwick twice before, get to hotel and get ourselves organised, then go and check in the bags at Gatwick. It makes for a much more relaxed start to your holiday.

You do need to be organised however, as there is a restriction on what you can take as carry-on in terms of volume and liquids we tend to duplicate toiletries. We pack a bag for the overnight stay and then just throw all that in the boot of the car at the airport and make sure all the toiletries and as much of the other clutter we need was packed and checked in the day before. This way, you only have to go through security with your hand luggage and it really is easy.

All this said, I still get to the airport way too early because for me, the holiday starts when I get there and I like to do some relaxed browsing round the duty free and have a nice breakfast. I don't do the twilight check in to reduce the time of arrival particularly, I still get there at least a couple of hours before the flight, but for the peace of mind. We are talking here of someone who has nightmares about missing flights, not being packed on time etc....:rotfl: :rotfl:

If Gatwick were closer (at least 4 and a half hours from Cannock) we would go there and do the twilight check in every time!!

Have a great time.

I did the online check in on 7th september (I am still over in florida) dropped my luggage in when I arrived (didn't give me a sticker for handluggage) and was told to arrive saturday at 8am. Made thiings much better.

Thanks for the replies. We have decided that provided we get there at a reasonable time we will do the twilight check-in. Thanks again:thumbsup2 :dance3:
