Team,

I'm due to fly out in the next fortnight with Virgin from Gatwick.

Funways in their wisdom prebooked our seats. This means that our Family of 4 (2A 2C) will be in a set of 3 and 1.

How can I change this? Virgin don't seem to want to know until 24 hours before :confused3

we phoned virgin about 10wks before and organised our seats. They were extremely helpful. try phoning and see what they say.

Virgin say all seats have been allocated for my flight now ( I did not know Funways have reserved them for me ).

I know that a proportion of seats are held back until 24 hours before the flight, but if I check in on-line, can I re-assign my seats?

Do I have to be a Virgin Holidays Customer to check-in on-line?

We tried to check our seat allocations and meal preferences online but couldn't get our booking recognised - we tried travel agents reference, seat number - every number we could find :badpc:

When I contacted Virgin they said that only certain sorts of references were recognised - I suggested they make that clear on the site but they haven't come back to me :sad2:

a 3 and 1 is what we had because we wanted at least one window seat. On the way out I had the aisle seat with 2 x DS next to me and DH across the aisel, on the way back he had the aisle seat in front of our 3. This actually worked very well as DH and I could swap and get kid-free time :cheer2: :grouphug:

We've travelled like that on numerous occasions (to spain though) and you are right it gives you a nice break.

When you have booked your holiday Vuirgin send out invoices which the TA pass on. There is a reference number on there which is the number that the system recognises try that one. We booked via Thomas Cook, but use the invoice ref number when we pre-booked and ordered kids meals.

I managed to logon yesterday and find the flight using the E ticket number on the vouchers Funways sent us. For all the bull :sad2: given to us by Funways and Virgin we are NOT sitting behind one another, but in a bank of three on the RHS side of the aircraft and a single seat on the LHS.

I could not change my seating and can only hope that either someone will swap or they will reallocate the seats upon arrival.

Can you change the seating during the on-line check-in :confused3
If yes, I'll make sure I check-in exactly 24 hours before.

From previous experience, Virgin will not let you have 2 sets of 2 which give 2 window seats. You'll either have to stick with 3 + 1 or go for all 4 together & no window. Believe me I had a good rant with Virgin about this a couple of years back when we took our niece & they sat her not just on the other side of the aisle to us, but in a completely different pat of the plane, purely because they had only tied her reservation with ours for the outward & not inward portion. THey also toed the line about seating being a request & not a reservation & therefore they were quite within there right to move her irrespective of the fact htat we had "reserved" our seats 11 months out!!!

A window seat does not bother me, so I'll see if they will change it to a bank of 4. We just want to sit together.

I see you stayed at La Quinta in 2003. What did you think?

I was planning on pre-booking the back aisles of the plane (2 rows of 2) for myself, DH, DS and DD, so no squabbling could break out.

Am I right in thinking then that Virgin will not let me do this??

Well, with me they booked a row of 3 and a single seat over the other side of the aircraft. I guess they are unlikely to allow you a two and a two as this would create two single spare seats. If you have your booking ref or e-ticket number you can logon now and change the seating arrangement.

I'm doing a twilight check-in and I'm going to ask for the Exit Row seats :)

(Well, we are both young and fit)

We done that last time (two more adults than this time). Things to bear in mind with exit seats

i) They are opposite the crew area, so will be noisy and light (if a night flight).
ii) Although you can stretch your legs out, everyone turns up at the door and seems to want to talk to you :ssst:

I was wondering about this too. Anybody know if it's possible?

Luckily, we're flying out in the day!

As far as people talking.. oh well! I'll be in a good mood anyway :goodvibes lol!

We were opposite the galley on the way back. I can't wear the eye-shades (they make me feel claustrophobic and anyway are difficult with specs!) and it was very hard to sleep as every time the crew went in and out there was a flash of light as they swished the curtain :sad2:

Exit row gets full of people queuing for the toilet too - again OK on way out wouldn't want it on way back!

Hello All
We have booked our seats on virgin and we have got 2 sets of 2 seats at the back of the plane were the seat plan is 2,4,2. We pre booked them on the virgin web site with no problems we hope they don't change this.

have been told that the sets of two seats are usually only used for couples not families? Doesnt seem fair but thats what i have heard. fingers crossed you get to keep your seats. these are also the seats we have booked but then again its just the two of us
