It looks as if we might be going both ways on the 747 in August bu can't book our seats due to the changes that are happening with the upgrades etc.

What exactly is likely to change with the upgrades? Is it going to be just the IFE or new seats etc?

Virgin Atlantic has announced a £50 million refurbishment of its fleet of Boeing 747 jets in 2012, as part of a wider £100 million investment into its products.

The refurbishment programme will see the airline’s fleet of 747-400 aircraft operating out of Manchester and Gatwick airports receive a full interior makeover. Starting in May, Virgin will upgrade seating in both Economy and Premium Economy classes on the planes, adding the latest in-flight entertainment systems offering 300 hours of content.

The new entertainment systems will also feature touchscreen handset controllers, as well as video-on-demand services for the first time on Virgin’s 747 fleet.

The refurbishments are due to be completed by October 2012, giving Economy and Premium Economy passengers departing on Virgin Atlantic services out of Gatwick and Manchester a significant upgrade in entertainment options, as well as more comfortable surroundings in which to enjoy them. Seats will be new ergonomic leather models, with an extended range of movement giving a maximum pitch of 38 degrees, as well as an adjustable headrest with side wings and additional lumbar support.

Passengers will also be allowed to make and receive mobile phone calls and messages using their own devices for the first time.

The refurbishment of the Virgin 747 aircraft will be the first of its kind since the aircraft began services from Gatwick and Manchester ten years ago. Virgin will be hoping the revamp will give passengers catching flights to destinations such as Las Vegas and the Caribbean from the two airports additional incentives to opt for Virgin Atlantic services.

Tht sounds good. I like the jumbos and i think the general feeling is they look tired so a revamp will be great.
