We just took the VIP tour in April. We had a group of 6. Dh, myself, our 5 and 8 year old, and MIL and FIL (they are 75 and 78). We took the tour on a Friday morning, at 10 am (park opened at 9). We could have booked for any time that day, but that time frame worked best for us. We had a large breakfast at Mimi's then hit the park for a bit before meeting up with the tour guide. I had told the person that booked the tour that we had children, and that we had wanted the discover the magic tour, but it wasnt offered. We wanted the tour to be fun for the kids as well as the adults.
Our guide was our fast pass runner. She made sure we got more when it was time. She offered to get us drinks (with our money) when we were hot and thirsty. She helped the kids get picked for jedi training. She got us front of the line when we met characters. She got us in before the other guests at turtle talk with crush. They arranged seating for the parade and fireworks the day of our trip, and block party bash, Aladdin, and the electric parade the following day. Some of the seating we used, others not. We also rode the LillyBelle train car around the park. She offered to help us get faster service at the dole whip stand.
I recomend you ask a lot of questions of the person setting up the tour for you. Give them ideas of things you might like to see or do. Dont be afraid to ask for things. They can't help you get front of the line for rides. But, they can help you get PS for some place like the blue bayou, even if its a busy day.
After our tour we were talking with a couple of other people that had taken a tour with a different guide. They were unhappy with what they had received for the money. They expected more bits of trivia and special info. They were not offered seating for shows on days other then the day of their tour. They could not believe how different our day was from theirs.
