VIP--take your CC info OFF iTunes!!!!

Is your paypal linked to your bank account? I read today of someone having that & the hackers cleaned out their account:scared1:And debit cards do NOT offer the same fraud protection as credit cards--you could be out of luck.

Yes, I have Webroot & run it regularly--again this AM!

From my bit of investigating today, it seems there has been a flurry lately & it is an iTunes problem. But I was not willing to find out when they maxed out my credit card!!

No I just have credit cards in my paypal account. Thank you for posting this info!

Thanks so much for the information. My DD's account was hacked and over $100 in purchases and fees were charged. She's on the phone now trying to get it all straight.

Run Avast! It's free and one of the best antivirus programs out there (as suggested by all the computer builders, programmers, and gamers I hang out with).

The part where they have appeared to use your own account is what is bothering me. This means they somehow accessed that specific account. I would be worried about that as well as the CC information.

Never heard of Avast (neither has anyone else I asked). However, Norton is awesome. Personally, I would not use some random program when Norton is out there and it is a great anitvirus.

oh also thanks to the OP for the heads up. Just deleted my info.

Thanks for the heads up. I just removed our cc from our kids I Tunes acct. Now to check my cc acct :sad2:

Respectfully, no site or person intentionally "lets" themselves get hacked.

OP - thanks for the warning! I've removed my CC - and more - information from my account. Getting/using ITunes cards will be inconvenient, but not nearly as bad as having a credit card number stolen or needing to get a card replaced!!!!

Thanks for the heads up. It was so easy to delete too. Actually, I went in and it told me my CC number was invalid (I set up Itunes 2 years ago, when I had a different debit card number). So, even if a hacker got in, the joke was on them. LOL

We took our credit card off last night. I am heading to Costco today and will look for the iTunes cards there. I wonder, if I buy the cards there, do I get the executive credit on gift cards? If so then it helps a bit. Last Christmas they had a coupon for $7 off the $60 pack of gift cards (4 $15 cards) and we bought those as gifts for our niece and nephew.

It's for these reasons that I'll only use gift cards with I-tunes...It seems like an easier way to keep my information secure

Once I gave dd access to my Itunes acct I took off all CC and paypal info because I didn't want her spending too much money. I only use iTunes cards now and after reading this thread I'm glad.

This happened to me about 2 months ago. I-tunes wouldn't refund the money, my CC had to reverse the charges. I-Tunes knows this is happening and won't do anything about it!!!

Webroot was offered free for 6 months when I bought my laptop, but I had been doing research on free virus protection programs. I just got the email that they renewed it, but I could cancel for a full refund...I just need to get around to to! I will check into Avast--thanks for the tip!
PS GOT THE JOB!!!!!!

After some research, found Norton bogs down systems a bit..there are actually several good free anti-virus programs out there...now if I can just find my notes...oh, well, web research is part of my job, (I am an elementary librarian...was in 2 buildings this year...LOVED one...the other one NOT so much...so I will be in one building this year)

Apple is the largest computer company now and they should not allow this kind of thing to go on.

wwhat? I just checked my itunes account after reading this thread. I have random FREE songs on mine. FREE! How odd.

Better check with dd, although how she would know my password, I don't know.

ETA: It was dd apparently. Now gotta change my pw.

Ok my paypal is linked to my itunes account, i took paypal off as and option but wouldn't i als0 have to suspend my itunes account because the hackers have access to my itunes account and can just switch back to paypal?

Should I go to paypal and take my bank account off an option?

I agree! The best thing I ever did was get rid of Norton and downloaded (free) AVG.

I was amazed at how much faster my computer ran once Norton was off!

And I took my CC info off iTunes once DS got an ipod. Now I'm glad I did. :scared1:

i had paypal take my bank account info off paypal, this will also keep my spending in check too lol.

I had our itunes linked to paypal as well but removed it. A few weeks ago I went to log into my paypal account to transfer some money to my bank, I had to verify my account and information to them. They said it was because they thought that someone was trying to compromise my account, but at no time did paypal let me know that this had happened, I only found out after I tried to log on and when I noticed that money that was supposed to be there wasnt (not because someone hacked the account but because paypal denied the transaction once the account limits were set) I am happy that they tried to protect my identity but it would have been nice to get some sort of notice from them stating that someone was trying to compromise the account.
