A friend told me when I have salad to just put vinegar on it instead of dressing or without oil because vinegar is a fat burner. Have you ever heard of this?

I've heard of it. Actresses like Joan Crawford and Betty Davis used to drink glasses of vinegar to burn fat. I didn't know they had fat to burn.

I don't think I believe that vinegar burns fat. I'd love to see a study that proves it though. Then I would drink vinegar too :teeth:

I have heard this also...I do not know how true it is though

I don't think I could ever DRINK vinegar, but I do know that Nakano Flavored Rice Vinegar is good enough to use on a salad without any oil at all!

(Couldn't hurt, could it??? ;) )

Maybe that's why Joan Crawford and Bette Davis always had that sour look on their faces. ;)

I have a vinegar book somewhere in this house. My mom was drinking vinegar (mixed with water?) for some sort of health reasons at some point. I'll have to look for that book and ask mom why she was doing that.

We use the Nakano rice vinegar. They have original, and 3 different flavors. Taste pretty good.

I typically use just vinegar on salad at restaurants, since I don't trust their fat-free dressings to not have tons of sugar.

While I doubt any claims that it actually burns fat (I'm pretty sure it doesn't do anything of the sort), the fact is that there are two positive impacts from using just vinegar on salad: no oil == no fat, and vinegar, itself, seems to supress the appetite a bit.

At home, I often make my own salad dressing, which I far prefer to any dressing I've ever been able to buy: Lots of dijon mustard, almost as much balsamic vinegar, and a little bit of olive oil.

DH used to drink Cider Vinegar to lower his cholesterol. It did work!! I used to gag just watching him.............Now he controls his high chol. with lipitor and eating!!! Soon to be off lipitor!!

Another vote for Nakano Japanese Rice Vinegar. I use it on steamed cauliflower also. I just read an article I think it was on Ediet, to summarize it is good for you but it does not cause weight loss.

I used to eat a lot of pickles when I was a teenager living home. My Mom used to tell me that they would dry up my blood. I think she was just saying that so I wouldn't eat the whole jar. It worked.

There is no scientific evidence that a diet of apple cider vinegar will work. There is no competent nutritionist or dietician that will recommend an apple cider vinegar diet. Using apple vinegar to burn fat is just a myth.

I like to use Balsamic Vinegar as a salad dressing sometimes. I don't know about the purported health benefits. I just like the strong, tart flavor!

My Dad takes vinegar to lower his cholesterol and he says his numbers have improved greatly.
