Does anyone know when they will start DVC sales for the Villas at the Grand Californian. We would want the GC as our home resort, otherwise it doesn't make much sense for us to join DVC. Thanks for any help!

It hasn't been announced yet.
We too are anxiously awaiting!
Our guide mentioned that year end is in October when I asked about it.
He didn't say that was when it would start, but why would he mention that in response? At least I can hope!

Thx, Deb. I hope it's October...we'll be at Disney (staying at the GC) in mid October, and an option to buy in at the Villas just might clench the deal for us.

We got a similar tip from a guide . . . about October and are anxious too. We're booked in DL on points for the latter part of October.

One caution to wideeyedwonder:

Members who have purchased their points via the Disneyland sales center will have a 60-day exclusive priority period to add-on at the Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Resort and Spa. After that, anyone can buy in. If you're staying in Disneyland mid-October, that 60-day window is passing you right now, unless you bought in to SSR from Disneyland.

I would have swore that my paperwork about the Founding Member status said we'd have 90 days before. Or maybe it's 60 before current members and another 30 before the general public? I guess I should pull out my paperwork and take a look again.

Oh boy! October would be GREAT!! I'm not a founding member, but I'm looking forward to buying as soon as we are able to!!

That's pretty much what my guide explained to me about the 90 day period before it goes to the general public.

We just got a mailer yesterday about adding-on at AKV that ends Sep 20th, so I'm hoping that the ending date of both the incentive and the fiscal year (Sep 30) mean that sales might begin in October or soon thereafter.

VGC is our only acceptable option as a home resort also. I'll be so curious to see whether it ever makes it to the general pubic via Disney. I really hope so. I wish I liked my guide better - for some reason I feel like she won't "fight" for us to get any remaining points before they are snapped up. Gotta figure out how to butter her up. ;)

I am just back from a trip to DL, and I toured the Grand Cal. villas. WOW, is all I can say!

The design has been tweaked and improved, imho. I LOVE those bathrooms, they are awesome, love the flat screens, love the huge table in the kitchen. I also really like that flip out bed under the TV in the living room. SO cool!

Good luck to all of you buying into DVC there. I will be a BCV owner trying to book there 7 months out.

Thanks! Now I don't have to go digging thru paperwork, which at my house is a daunting task! :rotfl:

We just bought our initial purchase at AKV at the DL DVC center. The VGC models are fabulous! Our guide said that the existing DVC members would only be able to add on 100 points when they become available (and that we as founding members would have the first opportunity as stated already). She said there would be 1,000,000 points available....

Hey I noticed while browsing a topic that you're from Noblesville. We live in Fishers, off of Cumberland and 131st! Howdy neighbor.

So I won't ask like what made you join DVC or if it's a good idea and such, plently of posts for that here.

I would like to know your experiences with traveling to Orlando. We have 4 and 2 year old boys. We flew to Disney for 3 days at a Value followed by a week in Tampa this summer.

My wife and I were really impressed at how much fun Disney was.

But, we've never driven there and we've always flew to Tampa and had a rental.

What's it like to drive yourself and what's it like to just to fly to Disney?

OK this is a clue to another one of my theories! Which is a better business plan for DVC? To sell all of VGC's points to people who are already DVC members or to bring in brand new people into DVC? I think the latter is more lucrative in the long term. Because each of those new members represents a potential for future add ons - more so than existing members who have plenty of points already do.

Especially since the West coast is a mostly untapped market for DVC. I think it makes a lot of business sense to develop a market base here.

Soooo . . . if they are limiting add ons to existing members then that will free up more points maybe for the general public - like meeeeeee!!! Also, I have read numerous posts from members who plan to buy VGC purely for investment purposes. I can see Disney wanting to disourage that.

This is both good news and bad news for me. I really wanted to add 165 points, but I'll gladly take what I can get now and add on later (besides, that will be much easier on the pocket book! :rotfl: )

OK - finally had to give in and pull out the documents. My paperwork on the founding member status states that I will have the opportunity to purchase up to 160 pts prior to other sales starting. They may have changed that now to 100, but mine was at 160.

Our add on was in June 2008 and it states up to 160 points too. I don't think it's been changed to 100 points.

It seems the info my guide gave me about 100 points was incorrect (I don't have my paperwork yet since we just started everything on 8/17). This is now the second thing she has told me that doesn't appear to be accurate. Is this typical of guides out there? Have others had similar experiences?

It happens now and then. Back in March I had one DL guide tell me I could start a new master contract with 110 points, had us come to the office to do the paperwork only to be told no by the QA group. I knew at the time you needed 160 points for a new master contract, but I thought maybe something had changed.
