I mentioned in another thread that I saw what I think was an inadvertent mention of 'The Villas at Disney Institute' in the latest Vacation Magic, talking about the upcoming Animation Event. I just checked the official disney website for the DI, and the new name is there too, so I guess it's the 'official' name now. Here's a link to the page...

"The Villas at Disney Institute" has been the umbrella name of the mish-mash of accomodations north of Downtown Disney, ever since the Disney Institute opened. This included Treehouses, Townhouses, Grand Vista Homes, and Bungalows.

I think it's highly unlikely that the new DVC resort that will replace part (and perhaps someday all) of the old Villas at Disney Institute will have the same name as that tired, dated, relatively unpopular resort. In fact, I think the "Disney Instutute" name will disappear as a physical entity, though Disney may continue to use the name for their corporate and group training.

I take exception :p with the characterization that the Villas were "relatively unpopular." Until they closed, this was my favorite place to stay at WDW -- the Club Suites were fantastic. Close to DTD, with great transportation to the parks -- the Villas were quite popular for some time. I think they began to fall in popularity when the Disney Institute was opened.

Your WDW Countdown

Buckylarue,

Could you please put me out of my misery and let me into the secret of how you get a countdown on your posts.

I would love to insert one in my posts.

Thanking you in anticipation.

I just noticed from your counter that you are going "home" in a month!!! I SOOOO envy you. As you can see, we have a LOOOONG wait until our next trip "home"!

My use of the phrase "relatively unpopular" was not meant as a criticism of the old Villas at Disney Institute resort or its location. However, the fact that it remains closed (and faces bulldozing), while Disney is reopening other resorts such as the PO French Quarter, does say somesome about the relative popularity of the old Villas at Disney Institute, compared to other WDW resorts.

I hope that the new DVC resort will retain everything Eeyore1954 liked about the old resort -- including being close to DTD and having great transportation to the parks -- as well as providing luxurious, well themed accomodations with whirlpool tubs and great decor, in the tradition of OKW, BWV, VWL, and BCV.

I was merely trying to point out that I believe that buckylarue is mistaken regarding Villas at Disney Institute being the name of the new DVC resort. The Web page to which buckylarue provided a link explains the closure of the old Villas at Disney Institute; it's not an announcement of the the name of the new DVC resort.

This is so funny, just 30 minutes ago a friend and I were discussing what we think the new DVC at the now closed DI would be called. They are also DVC members and we all agreed we do not think Disney will keep the name DI since the Institute is no longer, but you never know! We also agreed we are anxious to see the new DVC resort, if they keep the wonderful spa/health club etc, which I can't see why they would not, and with the close location to DTD (we are all PI lovers) this will be a really nice place to stay for a change of pace. Gotta love DVC and all the choices they keep giving us members! :D

The countdown clock instructions are on the Technical Support Forum.

Stephen Kay,

Now if you want a fancy Count UP/Count Down clock like mine, ....

Sorry, that's a secret.

(Had to get special permission from the Tech board to do it)....

Horace: I realized that ... I was hoping the use of a smilie might communicate I was speaking with tongue firmly planted in cheek. Obviously, I failed! :o

Anyway, I believe that before DI opened, the Villas were used quite a bit. Everytime my DW and I went, the Club Suites buildings were quite busy. We thought it was an ideal resort. JMHO :D :D :D
