I am posting this both here and on the rumors thread, because I have not followed or lent credence to this and don't know the status. Today, however, I passed an open door to the backlot at MGM and saw a couple vehicles parked, with VILLAINS emblazoned on the front. I heard a rumor that MGM would transform into a villains park, is this the case?? does anyone know ??

Maybe it's the float for MNSSHP? Are there Villains cars in the Stars and Cars Motorcade?

I don't know, one was a service vehicle of some sort, the other looked like a modfied golf cart. I don't remember anything like that in the parade.

I'd think vehicles would be way down the list of things they need to get going. If they decide to do something like that, I think it would be a new park. MGM seems popular and there would be a lot of cost in revamping the place. Would you throw out something like MGM that has an established position for something, in my opinion, is a risky venture. Villians automatically rule out some families. Heck, they don't even have a villians CM.

Disney has stated that they want to build more indoor thrill rides, and rumors of another park being built for this purpose has been on the boards. It would make a lot of sense and cents ($$$) to make a Thrill Ride park with the Villians as the guests of honor. (I can't see a thunderous thrill ride, with Sleeping Beauty decor). However, I can see a snake like roller coaster ride with twists and turns, in an Aladdin type decor, or a "magic carpet ride" and Jafar hosting the ride.

How about an Ursula whip ride? That goes up and down as well as, spins?

This would bring in a lot of business for the 12-24 age group.

I'd love a Villians park with some thrill rides, as long as it was still done with the Disney flair...just having a rollercoaster and slapping a vilians name on the outside of the ride just wont do if you know what I mean

If Disney did this in typical Disney fashion I would extremely excited, since the Villians are some of my favorite characters :maleficen

However, DM and I were speaking with a CM at the Pop and he basically debunked that Villians park as a myth, saying that at this point WDW has no plans to build any new parks :confused3

I completely agree. That would be a neat park, with the whole Villains theme, but not if they just built a general "thrill" ride and named it a Villain name.

well the rumor was not that a new park would be built, but that since disney was not going to be able to keep using the MGM name soon, that they would use the opportunity to name the park for the villains and re-theme some current rides and new rides would be in that vein. I have no idea if that is the case, but all the cm's denials don't preclude that possibility. I asked today and was told "disney has no plans to build a new park in orlando". Still that would allow for a re-theming..... maybe there is something to this.

The cars you saw were perhaps for the Villians shop on Sunset Blvd or service vehicles for Stars, Cars.......When I worked in Merchandise at DL, we had service vehicles for our location with our emblem on the side.

Check out www.wdwmagic.com in the news and rumors forum. Do a search. There are many rumors about this, but generally without much merit. The wdwmagic site probably has the best info when it comes to rumors.

I read an interview that included Bob Iger and Michael Isner, and both concluded that there were no plans for a "5th park" at this time, and that the main concentration would be to add more attractions in the exsisting parks, and strengthen the disney brand name.

I love the Villains and could just picture the big purple Ursular ride in my head ... alas i cant see happening in the near future.
It could be awesome though and what with the bad decisions happening over at Universal and the cheaper longer stay tickets for WDW, I think it would be the ideal time to syphon off some IOA and Uni guests...

oh well we can dream :maleficen

Am I the only one who thinks a thrill park would be a horrible idea for WDW? There are so many families with small children at Disney-- they wouldn't be able to do anything together in such a place.

I love the Villains too Cruella is my favorite since we're on the subject what is the best wesite for Villains screensavers, clipart etc.

In April 2002 at the GF the bellman was driving us with our luggage to checkout and he told us that Disney was going to be building a park to compete with IOA, and all the rides would be named after Disney villians. He had said it was a hot topic and then September 11th happened so it would be a while. Don't know if it was true or not - just thought I'd share.
