Hi all

My family have decided we think we'd like to stay in a villa for our trip next year... but wondered what kinds of properties on-site at Disney are available? We aren't members of the DVC but like the idea of a self contained villa / apartment etc. on Disney.

Is there anything suitable for us???

You can get a DVC villa by calling CRO or renting from a fellow Diser (it's cheaper) Several resorts have the villas WL, AK, BC, BW, SSR and OKW. There are studios, 1,2,and 3 bedroom villas. You can go to the DVC area of the Dis boards and get lots of info about what is in the villa and there are pictures. Also, check the WDW site as well. We have stayed in a 1 bedroom at BCV and BWV and just love them. The spacious rooms, kitchen, laundry, large whirlpool tub are just a few reasons why. We are not DVC and make our ressies through CRO. Just a little info to get you started. HTH

The only ones on property would be the DVC resorts, but you don't have to be a DVC member to stay there. You can either book directly through Disney, just like a hotel room, or you can rent a reservation (often called renting points) from a DVC member. Booking through Disney is much more expensive, although there are a couple benefits to doing so (you have a more lenient cancellation policy and you get daily housekeeping). Renting from an owner takes a lot of trust on both sides, because you don't have control of the reservation - the owner does.

If you are the type of person that decides on a resort and sticks with it, and also makes plans 7-11 months ahead, then renting through an owner may work well for you. If you tend to change your mind about your resorts, tend to book last minute, or need the flexibility to cancel last minute, then booking through Disney would be the better choice.

Of the DVC resorts on property, OKW has the larger rooms, and they are laid out differently to the other DVC rooms. I like VWL if I'm spending a lot of time in MK and either BCV or BWV if I'm spending a lot of time at Epcot. You didn't mention the size of your family, but the one bedroom and studio units typically sleep four people (plus one child under 3 in a crib), so if you have more than four, you would have to book a two bedroom. Also, two of those people would be on a sofa bed (with the exception of the OKW studio, which has two beds and no sofa). The one and two bedroom units have full kitchens, large split bathrooms (the two bedroom also has one standard size bathroom in addition to the large bathroom) and a washer/dryer for doing laundry (less packing!).

I really like the DVC resorts for my longer trips, when I spend as much time in the resort as in the parks.

The ideal situation would be renting points thru the week and booking thru CRO on the weekends with some kind of discount, maybe AAA. To rent points on the weekends is very expensive compared to the weekdays. Or you could just move to another location for the weekend. We kind of like to do that. Start the week on Sunday with your groceries at the Villa, do all your laundry there since with a one or two bedroom you will have a washer and dryer. Pack up what you don't need and move with a weekend bag to the Poly or Beach Club, etc and relax!

Welcome to the DIS :thumbsup2
We just returned from a week in a 1 Bedroom Villa at the Boardwalk Villas. We loved it there. It is our 5th time renting directly through Disney's CRO. fla4fun had a great summary for you. We do not rent points from an owner because making a FIRM, contractual commitment that can not be changed or cancelled 11 months in advance is not something I can do. So we rent from Disney.
We have stayed in 1 and 2 bedroom Villas at the Beach Club (BCV), Boardwalk Villas (BWV) and Old Key West, (OKW). The Villas at OKW were far larger than the others. It was beautiful and very peaceful there. I would go back. Our favorite is the BCV with its close proximity to World Showcase (WS) in Epcot. We usually spend most evenings in WS, we love it there. We also like being able to walk to the Studios from this location. The Boardwalk and all of its entertainment is also a short walk away. (I wish I was there now :lmao: ). Also at BCV you have access to Storm Along Bay (SAB) which is the best pool on property, IMHO.
The Villas are beautiful and each is themed differently.
The 1 bedroom has a fully equipped, full size kitchen, a living/dining room with a Queen sleeper sofa, a Master Bedroom with a King size bed and a split bath. There is a whirlpool tub in the bathroom and a stacked washer/dryer which is very convenient. Each unit also has a patio or balcony with chairs.
The 2 bedroom adds a second bedroom to the 1 bedroom with most often 1 Queen bed and a double sofa bed and a second bathroom. There may be a small kitchenette if it is a studio connected to a 1 bedroom. At OKW the second bedroonm will have 2 Queen beds and no sofa.
All have pools, hot tubs, a restaurant etc.
We love staying in the Villas and are now spoiled. We will not stay anywhere else.
There are pictures of the units here on the DIS, on the official WDW site and at allearsnet.com
Good Luck with your decision.

I have a question re: the BCV...I have never rented from a Diser, or even stayed in a DVC room. Could I get a studio at BCV for less than if I booked one on a "bounceback deal" for next Sept.? We're going to the World in 2 weeks and hear there is a bounceback deal offered in some resort rooms. We want to stay in BC next time and know that some DVC resorts are 40% off for certain dates. Could renting from a DVC owner beat that price?

Getting a bounceback on BCV could be difficult because it is small and often booked up with members. You'd probably get OKW or SSR on bounceback, though.

There are differences in your stay when you stay on points and when you pay Disney directly. If you book through CRO, you'll get daily full housekeeping. If you book through a member, you'll get very limited housekeeping service because it is a time share and housekeeping is limited to keep dues down.

Thanks, Deb & Bill...I think upon further reading, that it would better suit me to call CRO because of my tendancy to change my ressies!!
