anyone here ever get to ride on the Tomorrowland Viewliner or the Flying Saucers?

I did....great rides...back in the day....the Viewliner predates the Monorail. It was the first futuristic train of Disneyland

maybe I am too old for this group?:rolleyes1

guess some of you need some schoolin' on the old Disneyland;)

Wow, the Moonliner was only around a couple of years. Lucky you to have been able to see and ride it.

Why would you think you are too old for the group here? Everyone is welcome. It's always fun to have the viewpoint of those who experienced things you haven't.

The Flying Saucer ride was my favorite when I was a kid!! I don't remember the View/Moonliner, though.

As for schoolin' people on this board, watch out!!!!! Lots of young uns here know a lot more about DL than both of us, I suspect. I know I'm always awed by the amount of knowledge that comes out on the DIS.

Nostalgia? Heck I was there....just wondering if there are any other old dogs out there that saw some of it too.
Been to the Yesterland website....very interesting stuff.

DanT...

Rainbow Caverns Mine Train... I remember watching my parents' old home movies - silent ones from the early 60s ;) - with this train that had these kind of painty bubbly things coming up out of this brown-ish liquid. (There's gotta be a better description than that. :rotfl:) Would that be it?

Mission to the Moon... I thought there was something called Mission to Mars. As I type this, maybe I'm thinking of Adventure Thru Inner Space??? I don't know. I remember a ride where you appeared to be shrinking. It seems like you sat in a "cart" type thing like the ones in Haunted Mansion. I also remember a big huge eyeball. Were they from the same ride?

And please tell me you remember Frontier Freezes... I am having a hard time finding someone outside of my family who DOES remember them. My older sister talks about something called a Lunar Frost, but I don't think I was around for that.

Oooooh, I love old-school Disneyland stuff! My memories don't go back as far as yours ;), but I love hearing about old-school stuff. Watching my 48 year old sister on silent movies riding Dumbo as a child... love it! I haven't been for 13+ years so I'm quite out of the loop, but looking forward to re-entering the loop later this year. :woohoo:

You're waaaay older than me ;), because the first time I went to Disneyland at the age of 10, Space Mountain had just opened and we had to use an E ticket on it. Wish I would have been able to ride the flying saucers, but consider myself fortunate to say I rode on the Skyway through the Matterhorn before it closed.

Mission to mars....
sat in a round studio with a screen in the middle of the floor...had projections of the moon on it. the seats moved and shook a bit...kind of a precursor to Star Tours on a very ancient way.
Your description of Adventure thru Inner Space is right on.
The ride vehicles where the blue print for the HM Doombuggies.
You were shrunk from normal size all the way down to Atoms IIRC.
Sponsored by Monsanto, got off the ride onto Astro turf...
Rainbow Caverns Mine Train was very similar to the mine ride at Knotts.
Bubbling pots all lit up with black lighting...fluourescent colors everywhere.
I was in the park on the day of the reopening of Fantasyland in 1989...Watched them redrop the SB draw bridge.
I also remember riding on Autopia in its first itteration with no center rail...just side rails to keep you on track..took a bit more driving ability.

Wow, fun memories DanT. :) This round studio you mentioned...would that be where Circle Vision or America Sings ended up being located? I'm not sure if I barely remember Mission to Mars or if I just remember older siblings talking about it. Was it still there in the mid-70s?

And really, do you (or anyone else) remember Frontier Freezes? I'm beginning to think they only existed for me and my family while on vacation at Disneyland! They were delicious orange freeze things. We were so disappointed one summer as we walked around looking for them and couldn't find them. We sat down at some tables and tried to figure out what to do. We were lost without our Frontier Freeze fix. ;) Then, while we were sitting there, these shutters flew open at the little eatery we were sitting next to. Posted on the menu was "Frontier Freeze" - yay! But they have since gone the way of many other Disneyland "attractions."

I remember Mission to Mars, it can't be that old! Also shrinking in the telescope and terrified by that big eye!

The people mover before Tron was installed. Dancing waters at Disneyland hotel. The boats way before it was a smoking section. It could have been Knotts Berry farm but I also remember dressed up Native Americans. The rockets when they were elevated.

Mission to the Moon turned into Mission to Mars if I remember correctly and then I seem to think it was sort of where Redd Rockets Pizza Port is now. America sings was in the big building that is now Innoventions and Circle vision is sort of where Buzz Lightyear is now...

Am I remembering correctly??

I don't remember them, but I did a quick Google search and this listing in ebay (which I am not in any way endorsing!!!) has a mention of a Frontier Freeze and a Lunar Frost if you scroll all the way to the bottom. http://cgi.ebay.ph/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280376267628

before it was America Sings it was Carousel of Progress sponsored by GE IIRC.
Rockets started on the ground, then eleveated above the People Mover station, then became the Astro Orbiters at the entrance to Tomorrowland.

DizMe! You won't believe this... I checked out your ebay link and guess what??? That seller is my sister!!! :rotfl: How crazy is that?!? Again, I am left to wonder if Frontier Freezes were part of the magic just for our family. ;)

Dan T you are not alone. I remember going in the early days. My favorite ride was the mule train. I loved all of frontierland: the mine train, the canoes (still there), and the stagecoach. They did have Native American bedecked cast members as well as cowboys and the (still present) Tom Sawyer and Polly outfitted staff.

A funny thing in reviewing pictures of myself - a great one stepping off a jungle boat in my "casual clothes" of ked sneakers, white socks and shirtwaisted dress - ha ha. All our pictures from the day show myself and my mother in dresses - Mom wearing HEELS. Good grief. We went once or twice a year throughout my youth. So you are not alone.

Another oldie here.. I remember the flying saucers, riding the pack mules and the Rainbow Caverns Mine Train..and Chicken of the Sea Pirate boat..also have a picture of the real mermaids from my grandparents..I think I remember them but don't know if I just think I do from the picture my grandparents took who went earlier than I did..How could they??!!!! Also.. I LOVED the Monsanto House of the Future and..what was it called?? Inner Space? The one that showed everyone going through the tube getting tiny :lmao:

OMG, how funny is THAT?! :rotfl:

So....we still don't know whether this thing truly existed or whether your family made it all up :lmao:
