I am currently trying to plan our September 20, 2008 disney wedding. We are getting married at the wedding pavillion and the cocktail hour/reception will be held at the Yaht Club. While going over the packages, my fiancee and I thought the prices of the videographer and the photographer seemed pretty high. Is anyone using an outside vendor for this? We are from out of state and do not have the ability to check out other vendors face to face. Thanks!

For photography, Randy Chapman seems to be the DIS favorite by far. I'm sure you'll see his name on this board a lot as you look through threads. :)

That is who we are using and I have no doubts or worries. I feel confident we will get the best service using Randy.

We just got married at Sea Breeze Point on Disney's Boardwalk October 20! We used Randy Chapman and he was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! He was soooooo very helpful (he even helped bussle my dress!!)and made us feel right at home and I can't wait to see the amazing shots he took!!! He came before the wedding to take shots of all of the girls getting ready at the hotel, then at Sea Breeze, and then reception and pics at Polynesian (I KNOW THOSE WILL BE MY FAVORITES!!) :thumbsup2 Congrats sweetie!!!

We are using Randy as well. I think he is very reasonably priced. We were originally planning on getting married at home and Randy wound up being a third of the price of the photographer we were going to use and includes more photographs. From what I have read on here, you can't go wrong with Randy!

We are really leaning towards Gary Fox, both DFH and I really like his photojournalistic style. I don't want traditional wedding photos of constant posing. Plus for the same price that disney charges I get the DVD of all the pictures, the copy rights (so we can print the pictures anywhere), all of the proofs and a 30pg album that looks amazing. We are probably gonna go meet with him over our planning session.

What about videographers though? Did anyone use someone outside of Disney?

As you can see there are several options for an outside vendor for photography.

You might do a google search for "orlando wedding photographers" or for the names here to take a look at their websites for an idea of their photographic style. "The knot" had a pretty extensive list with links too!

For video, the only name that comes to mind is Stan from STVS.

Good luck with your search...and your wedding. You will be getting married on our 3rd anniversary! We were married at SBP as well!

We are using Star Fruit Productions for our video. They are documentary filmmakers who started doing weddings, and the result looks like a real movie! They are cheaper than Disney too.

For photography we are using Nathan & Jensey Root, who do portraits and photojournalistic shots, are very friendly, and are very reasonably priced.

Is Randy Chapman difficult to get hold of as he seems so popular?
How far in advance can you book him?

Randy was our first choice, but he wasn't available for our day, so we went with Gary Fox ( www.gfoxfoto.com ). We were very pleased and got all the shots we wanted...and obviously more great shots. He made the older folks who were shy in front of the camera very comfortable.

I am using Misty Miotto for photogrpaher. She has been really great to work with. She took our engagement pics about a month ago and they came out wonderful!! I am looking forward to working with her on our wedding day!

I am using George from Apex Media for videographer.

Here is something is my take on Randy!

( I wrote this review on a different thread but want to share it here just in case you missed it)

Before I speak further I encourage you to look at at Randy's work along with other competitors. Randy is highly spoken of here on the boards, but I want you to make a decision that you are comfortable with. I am Randy's biggest fan so you will hear me speak very highly of him. His work is phenomenal and seriously, cannot be beat.

Depending on the package you get from Randy will depend on the price.
If you go to www.chapmanphotography.com and go to "Disney brides" the password is "Ariel". You can look at those photos and see some examples of his work there (you might be surprised to see many DISers there). If you click on the botton it will say "wedding information"... there you can look at his prices. When comparing prices you will see that Randy is a GREAT investment.

Disney gives you very few photos and makes you pay approx $1000 for the CD. Where Randy, on the other hand, gives you a CD with all of your photos and you own the copywrite to the CD. He also gives you an album with (depending on the package) a great number of photos.

Here was my package-- to give you an idea.
-I paid $613 dollars for 3 hours of photography. He shot me getting ready at the WL, then at the ceremony (Sea Breeze Point- Boardwalk Resort),shot afterwards for the reception and Mickey and Minnie, and then we went for the remainder of the time to the Grand Floridian for some photos on the grounds there.
-We received the album with over 400+ photos. The album is beautiful and I could not be happier.
-He also sent the CD with every single photo he took of us on the day. We have been able to take this CD an get reprints for as low as .22cents (Compare that to any other photographer. Sometimes reprints can cost up to $70 dollars).

Randy is a great deal!

Randy is the most artistic, tallented, individual I have ever met. He is very personable and really makes you feel as though you are well taken care of. I had no idea what was going on the day of my wedding and Randy did. He took control and even helped my DH and Dad get their clothes on correctly (haha ) before the wedding. He also answered all of our questions as to what we needed to do for the ceremony (something my WC hadnt really prepared us for).

I highly recommend Randy as an outside vendor.

Think of it like this

You get what you pay for. With Disney its already included but you get very very few photos and when you want more (those that they didnt give to you in your fold out)... that will add up (sometimes photos are $70 a piece. Wont all of the in-laws want atleast 1 photo?? How many photos is that-- it practically makes going with randy worth your money). His packages are so reasonable and you wont have to worry about years down the road having to get in touch with someone just to get a reprint of a photo that your child happened to rip up, or got knocked off the shelf and bent. You own the copywrite and the CD with all the photos are on it... its as easy as going to wally world-- popping it in the computer and getting a reprint for mearly pocket change.

Some might say... 'weve already paid for someone.. why throw more money away'... but whats $600 some-odd dollars in the grand scheme of things? A lifetime of memories on paper... able to access them forever-- not to mention a photographer who is(in my opinion) better than Disney Photography?? In my opinion thats priceless in and of itself... Theres no big price tag along with this one though... hes actually affordable

But look this is the real thing, Im not someone who works for Randy nor do I know Randy outside of the photography that he shot for my wedding. Genually- hes all round tallented great guy.

Here are a few of my photos-- and if this dont convince you I dont know what will. I have said this many times and ill say it again-- im not bragging about me or my DH in these photos (if you read my TR you will see I wasnt exactly pleased with my looks on the day of the wedding).. but in all honesty, Randy Chapman could take fabulous photos of pigs playing in a pig pen...

I hope you make the same great decision I did...

If you need more info please feel free to ask. You can exchange your already paid for Disney package for the Disney Honeymoon Photo Shoot-- free exchange. Here are photos of the album I received (I also received the CD) and as you can see--- a whole lot more photos than what Disney offers! GL with your decision:thumbsup2

I didn't use Stan from STVS-- but I regret that decision and really recommend him!!

I don't want to slam your pictures AT ALL, but I am wondering what is up with all the crooked stuff. Do a lot of people like that these days? They just give me a headache and I would not be at all happy if my pics were like that. Do you have the option of getting the same prints straight? For intstance, I love that one of the two of you on the beach, but I would want it straight.

I am helping my niece in preliminary planning of a Disney wedding and just getting my feet wet with all of this stuff.

I have those photos straight as well-- i just didnt post them all. Randy does a lot of different types of photography. I got well over 1000 photos-- those are just the ones i put on here. I hope they didnt make you sick. He does do regular straight up and down photography. Most of mine are straight up and down-- but I prefer angles.

Hope that helps show you more of his regular work. Sorry about the others. I do like the 'crooked' look.

We used Randy and were thrilled. However, I will say that it is a matter of taste and track record. I have seen beautiful photographs from a host of photographers. Go with who you are comfortable with that has a proven track record of showing up and consistency in their photos.

I am taking a professional photography class right now, our teacher who has taken photos for Vogue, Elle, Zales, etc says that there is only one thing that is non-negotiable in photography and that is white -balance. Everything else is just a matter of personal taste! Whatever you choose, your day will be wonderful! Oh, FYI, I used Stan for video.

**Just in case you didn't know, white balance helps show the true color something was at the time you took the photo. Ok, basic and quick definition.

I think it's usually referred to as 'angled' rather than 'crooked'. Crooked would be if the pictures were slightly off center, like if the photographer had a shaky hand or something. Her photos are centered, they're just shot at an angle. And yes, it's pretty popular with brides these days. I think it's nice to mix things up a bit with different angles... I know the last thing I want is for my wedding photos to look like a bunch of mug shots. Randy's awesome... and your photos are lovely, Maggimus. All of them. :)
