video tapes through security

Just to double check. I hear a lot about photograhic film being damaged in the checked or carryon X-rays.

But how about 8mm video tapes and the miniDV digital tapes?
They shoud be safe should they not? Are there any magnetic effects from Xray machines??

I have heard that the x-ray machines for the luggage you check in will ruin any type of undeveloped film and digital film (because it is a very strong x-ray machine). The x-ray machine for the carry on should be ok. I would call the airline before you go and double check w/ them.
