I remember Pete mentioning he had a lot of video from the ABD trip to edit. I was wondering if this included any of the Nemo Subs. I am mildly claustrophobic (at times it is worse than others), but was hoping I'd be okay with this attraction. Pete or anyone, do you have a snippet on film that could help me see what it's like down there?

This probably doesn't help, but this is a little video from our trip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zweyvClpxiQ
It gives you an idea of how far you are from the window and there are people on both sides of you. The ceiling height is pretty high, you can stand comfortably.

Does the idea of being underwater freak you out? I know that the sub don't really go underwater, but I personally get freaked out when it starts "diving". I have to sit there reminding myself we are not actually going under the water.:rotfl: It's a fun ride and great ride to do first thing on a magic morning.

I can mildly feel that way at times too. But knowing it doesn't really go under and seeing all the space around me, I'm fine on that ride. I feel like the whole sub is open enough and I didn't think the seats were too squishy. However, in the interest of full discloser, I'm not tall or "Pooh" sized. It would be a shame to miss the subs though because they are classic Disneyland.

I remember going on the subs when they were at 20K at WDW. I didn't have this issue then though. As long as there's ample space between me and everyone else I'd be fine.

I get mildly claustrophobic and wasn't really comfortable on this ride. I wasn't freaking out or anything, but I was glad to get off. (I also didn't think it was a very good ride, but that's just my opinion.) There is air being pumped in, so that helps. I just kept staring ahead outside and didn't look around. It didn't help that we were the first to board and one of the last ones off. I wouldn't ride it again, but it's really more about what I thought of the ride than how comfortable I felt in the sub.

If I remember correctly, Pete did not actually ride in the sub.
I do have a bit of video that I will post when it actually gets edited, which includes the "BUMP". :lmao:

Hey Nikki,

If you decide that going in the sub is NOT for you, there is an alternative experience available for Nemo.

There is a room for those unable/unwilling to go down in the subs, where you can view a video of the ride. Just ask a CM to open it for you...no questions asked.

Nikki:

As someone who is also mildly claustrophobic, but thought this would be "no big deal" (and recalls going on the 20,000 Leagues ride at WDW when I was younger), I have to be honest and say that I WOULD NEVER DO THIS AGAIN.

Admittedly, our sub was overloaded since they boarded everyone from the ABD trip who wanted to go on a single sub (40 of us?) and the experience was made even less pleasant by the fact that we seemed to hop off of the track at the beginning of the ride and then bottom out several times throughout.

It also wasn't reassuring to hear the pilot talking to home base asking "What should I do?" and to hear them answer "Just keep going!"

Then there was also John (3guysandagal) shouting, "I feel water by my feet!" :rotfl:

There was air movement in the vehicle and I just kept staring out the porthole and taking deep breaths, so I "survived," but it wasn't fun for me.

Besides, if you've been on the Nemo clam shells in the Living Seas, you've seen the basic technology and "show" anyway.

Hmmm. I am undecided about this one. I guess I'll wait for that snippet of video and decide from there. Thanks for the insight.

I can also get mildly claustrophobic, and I was worried about this ride as well. I found a great picture on AllEars of the inside of the sub which might help you too, Nicki.

Hope this helps. We will be there in 6 days (), but I don't have video. Anything I can photograph that might help?

My wife and I were recently at Disneyland and we went into the Finding Nemo accessible experience - I think it has a cute name like Explorer's Lounge or Oceaneers Lab. It was really quite good. There are a couple of benches and plenty of room for wheelchairs/scooters and sitting on the floor. It is very well themed like and Oceaneer's Laboratory. I found it to be a very good alternative to being on the sub, and there is a surprise or two that may have inspired the Imagineers designing those magical portholes for the inside staterooms on the new Disney Dream cruise ship. If you are claustrophic, this will provide you with a great Finding Nemo experience. I don't think you'll feel like you missed out.
