"Video Now" Questions

Lisa: where did you see a port player at WM for 98?? Everything I see on the website is over $150? thanks

Hi All,
My concern about a regular portable dvd player is that they need power to run on. The Ten Tech has a built in battery. Yes I know it is heavy but it can go on the airplane with them and regular one could not.

Our portable DVD player has a recharable battery pack. We've used it many times in planes, airports, camping trips, etc. We can also plug it into a regular outlet or a car lighter, so it's very versatile. We love it. I think we spent about $150 at Wal-Mart and it has already been so worth it, just for long car and plane trips!

Beth,

That price will only be good at walmart the day after Thanksgiving "Black Friday"

They may not even have it online, only in store.
here are the specifics:

Apex 5.6 inch Portable DVD Player $99.74

I guess my reply will be in the minority -

We surprised our DD6 with a Video Now Color because we are currently on vacation and had an 11 hour drive. She played with it the whole time we were in the car! I think it is the best money we ever invested - I don't know how we would have survived the drive without it. Just another opinion...

Instead of Video Now, you might want to consider the gameboy advance SP. Besideds all of the Gameboy games your kids can play on it, they now offer Gameboy Advance Video with Video Cartridges on it with a lot of the hot shows kids these days are watching. I think its a much better value and we all know that gaemboy is sticking around!

I was lucky enough to get a teen tech dvd, but was too nervous to swap the VN/case/Hilary/Raven discs for it so I hung on to them. SO glad I did. I put the TeenTech on my scale at home, it's 5 lbs! DD5 is small, but I was very uncomfortable dealing with the player. Also figuring the rechargeable battery, which covers the entire back of the player, will get hot while playing and be uncomfortable to hold. I think the weight would cause a lot of bumps and drops.
VN is a great weight/size for young kids. I've been sticking to the live action discs vs. cartoons thinking they will keep their attention longer (funniest home videos, amanda show, hilary duff, raven). I figure it'll be obsolete and it is a scam that it will only play their discs...but santa wouldn't give her that answer!
I think it will be a fun toy for her. She doesn't like to watch tv in the car, so the short time of the discs should be perfect. Got the player at KMart for $45, case for $5, Hilary/Raven discs for $8 and 3 3-packs of discs for $9.24 at WalMart.

My kids adore their VideoNow. We have it all- Gameboy Advance, 2 portable DVD players, etc. and each serves it's purpose. The beauty of VN is it's portability and the popular shows on the discs. For long family vacations, we have to pay the overdue fees for the DVDs but with VN, we own them.
My kids had strep throat recently and didn't want to get out of bed. We don't allow TVs in their rooms but I did bring up the VN's and they were happy curled up in their with their players and headphones.

Good luck w/your decision. Threehearts

All portable DVD players have battery packs, that is what makes them portable. Any of them can be taken on a plane or anywhere else.

We have the Gameboy Advance SP, and 4 of the videos for it. They are very cool, but they cost a lot more than the Video Now single discs, they are $19.99 each, and they do not have the live action shows. Only a few select cartoons, Pokemon, Fairly Oddparents, etc.

I am still trying to decide which route to go for my dd for Christmas.

My daughter's friend got the B&W last year. DH said no because there will be a color one soon........and there was! Actually I think it is a cute little player and all of DD's friend want one this year. Hilary & Raven are very popular with them, I think that's the selling point. I wouldn't want DD playing with a DVD player that cost $150.00 (or more w/ rechargeable battery) Plus the VN is much lighter. We also have a GB SP but the cartoons they sell for it aren't that easy to see in my opinion.
