Upgraded my computer from WINME to WINXP at the beginning of the year. With that I lost my Firewire connection and editing software. I bought them about 6 years ago (paid quite a bit too), but that was before XP came out so none of it was compatable with XP.
A few weeks back I found on amazon.com a 5 port 2.0 USB PCI card. It also has 2 1394 IEEE Firewire ports which along with 2 of the USB Ports are slotted in the front of my computer case and connected to the USB PCI card. SWEET setup. (though I accidently unpluged the DVD Burner wire,,, DOH!!)
I have downloaded a few different video editing/capture software but had trouble capturing the video. So finally I went to Windows Movie Maker that came free with XP. Works like a charm. The editing side is no Adobe Premier, but it suits my needs for now. Just need to capture, do some simple editing and then upload to photobucket. Boom,,, I'm in business.
So I added some video clips to my Disney Photo site. Clips are from our 2005 trip just after Thanksgiving. Didn't do any video this past trip. I took some video editing/production classes in college. Its always been a hobby, but haven't really had the right equipment. When I was using my old stuff (on WINME) the computer wasn't really up to snuff. Now the computer is plenty strong (got a new 200GIG hard drive coming this week) and the software is enough to get me by. Don't have a heck of a lot of time for editing and stuff anyway with 3 kids ages 4 and under added to the fact that I'm up for work at 4am which means bed time is 8pm on work nights.
Ok, I've typed enough. Here is the link to the video folder on my photobucket account. Only 6 clips thus far. More will be added over time. Most aren't as good quality as I'd like because I don't have the 200 gig hard drive yet and only have about 10 gig of space left on my current HD. So I can't capture at the high res yet (it take about 178mg vs 3mg per minute).
BTW, video camera is a Sony Digital 8 DCR-TRV820.
