I have an approximate 20 minute video that I am trying to upload onto YouTube but am experiencing problems given its file size (1080 P). The file format is .MOV and changed the video format to MPEG4 which is horrible in terms of the reduction in quality.

Is there any freeware out in the public domain that reduces the file size to a more condensed file size for uploading onto YouTube without sacrificing the quality of the moving images.

I use Handbrake, you can get it at Handbrake.fr to compress down my file sizes for upload. You'll have to play with quality settings until you get something you're happy with but it works a treat, make sure you check the "web optimised" box under the filename.

Thanks . . . actually the software that I used was handbrake and I was disappointed in the lack of quality because of the MPEG-4 format which rendered a horrible quality. I which check my settings again on handbrake and perhaps somewhere in their settings might be an option to render the video in a better file format for enhanced quality then MPEG-4.

MPEG-4 is terrible. H.264 is a much better optimized codec & will output an mp4 file. In my experience H.264 will give better quality & lower file sizes.

I run mine at a constant quality 19RF with these advanced video settings:

I can about 35 minutes of action video at 720p for about 1G.

Also take a look at Format Factory. It has presets for video size, and will let you convert among several file formats.

You seem to have more options from the screenshot of your softwares UI . . . I am not seeing half the features compared to my view and from my view most of the features of the software are greyed out. I will need to seek some plan B.

In the video tab there is a checkbox "Use Advanced Tab instead" if you select that you should get another tab at the top labelled "Advanced" that should give you the same options as I have on my screenshot. If not, it's maybe a Mac thing.
