Video Editing Software?

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good video editing software? I'd like to be able to add music, pictures & video. Something not too complicated but I'd love effects as well Thanks!

I'm currently using Final Cut Pro X which has a large learning curve but isn't too difficult. I just started using it about a month ago. Here's one of my "creations":

I have used ProShow Producer and Sony Vegas Movie Studio before and they're awesome. The only reason I'm using Final Cut Pro is because I just upgraded to the new iMacs

Adobe Premiere Elements is a great entry level video editing software package....

Windows or Mac? I don't know much about low cost video on the Mac. On the PC, the popular ones are Adobe Premiere Elements, Sony Vegas, and Ulead Video Studio.

Honestly, none are all that simple. Editing video is a moderately complicated job.

I agree! Someone once told me that video editing is like giving someone a haircut...one strand at a time!

PC please I'm willing to learn a bit, I just don't want something that I have to read a 1,000 page manual on. I can understand basics pretty easily.

Agreed. Editing video can be complicated if you use software that gives you any kind of control. But there is always Windows Movie Maker if you need something free and simple. It's pretty straightforward, but all it really lets you do is ram clips or photos together and add music. Same thing with iMovie on the Mac, only it has the Ken Burns effect for showiness.

OP--- I'd look at Premiere Elements if you're willing to learn some. Though my DH would tell you to get Vegas, I personally feel like Vegas is a little less intuitive than Premiere.

I'm a fan of Sony's Vegas... I use Vegas Pro, but that would be over kill for what you are talking about... maybe look at their vegas home studio or one of the higher levels of Vegas Home Studio if you want more bells and whistles. For my use the Vegas is much easier for making the DVDs of the movie after your finished editing than some of the other software.
