People have talked a lot about bringing backpacks on rides, but how about video cameras? We just bought a new one for the trip and plan to bring it, but I don't want it to get banged up on rides. We have a bag for it, but will that keep it safe enough? Can we do the "camera swap" so DH and I can stay with the camera while the other rides? Or should we leave it in a locker while we do the rougher rides, then retrieve it later? Help!

Your camera should be fine. Just hold on and if you can put the video camera in it's bag as you have mentioned and put that in the backpack if you can....

I have even rode rides with the video camera around my neck..

some of the rides have places to put your items like bags infront of your seat. other rides don't but most of the rides aren't that bad for you to not take your camera. my fiance took footage on the Magic Carpet Ride and even Test Track and both times they were fine. he brought it on Mission:Space also, but he didn't record(obviously lol) he said it was fine(i didn't go on the ride lol). the only rides i can think of for you to keep it in a locker are rides like Rock N Roller Coaster and Tower of Terror, it might get banged up pretty good on those two....oh and Space Mountain.

As long as you can hold it wiht only one hand you should be fine, but I always buy the extended waranties from companies that cover "any damage" (Ritz Camera is my current favorite as they price match, but I digress). I would strongly suggest that if you are planning on taking it to a theme park and did not buy an extended waranty, either see if you still can or return it (if possible) and repurchase with an extended warranty. I personally would rather be safe than sorry with that expensive of equipment, but honestly I have taken several digital cameras and a Mini-DV camera to Disneyland, Dinseyworld, Sea World, Universal Studios, Zoos, Beaches and numerous other places and never had a problem, except when the wrist strap broke on one of them while I was walking down Hollywood Blvd at DCA, the camera didn't look too good after that but still functioned. Turned out the wrist straps eneded up being recalled shortly therafter, others must have had similar problems I guess. I did have a problem wth a camera on Rocket Rods once, it fell down under the car on the track, but the CM retrieved it and no hamr was done either to the camera or the film inside of it, so all in all after many years and a lot more than most people would do so I would say it is relatively safe to bring it on rides, just remember not to spoil the magic by using video lighting where it's supposed to be dark. ;)

We take our camera everywhere, DH even video taped some rides, like Test Track, Railroad Mountain, Goofy Coaster, RNR, and we put it in our backpack when not in use, i also take a couple of ziplocks one galon bags, just in case of rain, or wet rides.
