Does anyone know what rides/attractions you can and cannot take a video camera on? I wanted to make a highlights video of my trip to Universal and Disney. I think we're going to US, IOA and MGM for sure. Thanks.

I'd have to say NONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know my DH tried to video the cat in the hat ride................ and was literally over a loud speaker told to turn it off!! So, they watch, and see what your doing!!! We did get some of it though, but we didn't realize we couldn't video it.

I would think DM would know for certain though, if there are any that allow it.

You can videotape shows, like Horror Makeup Show, Ghostbusters, Beetlejuice's Graveyard Revue, etc. They even encourage it.

Rides are a different story though. My cousin tried videotaping the Cat in the Hat ride too, and the ride completely stopped at one point. She continued videotaping not realizing WHY they stopped  but then turned it off, and it started going again. She started up videotaping again. lol.......

If you can work out the timing, maybe you can videotape when your group is on Popeyes, or Dudley Do-rights. You can capture part of the ride, depending where you stand. The coasters are the same thing.

But being on the ride, and videotaping...I don't think so :(

Oh yeah! Videotape any encounters with the Mystical Fountain at IOA!!! So funny!!!

Well, that's kinda funny because Disney doesn't care about any of their rides, except Tower of Terror. Go on California Screaming with a camera in the front seat? No problem. Ride the Matterhorn taping the entire ride? No problem.

And don't even talk about taping the Mummy ride, that will cause a million responses. Just go over to IOACentral and say you wanna video tape the Mummy and see what happens? Ha Ha. Then ask when it's going to open.

Tower of Terror? That's weird. A couple of friends of mine went to WDW a couple months ago and were able to tape Tower of Terror. At least the actually dropping part of the ride and he even filmed while going into the actual elevator and the operator didn't really seem to care unless I missed that part. And I've seen a couple of Jurassic Park River Adventure videos on the Internet within the last couple of years. Last night I was looking at an MGM Studios website with a FAQ on it and it said there was no video taping allowed inside the elevator so that's what got me confused.

SO - Now I know for sure that it WAS my video taping on the Cat in the Hat that caused the ride to stop - twice. It freaked my kids out and we weren't sure if I caused it to happen. No one ever came over a loud speaker, I guess after twice I really stopped recording. It was one of the only rides my daughter REALLY liked so I wanted to have it on tape. We got most of it. I think it is hard recording on rides. Good luck to anyone that tries.

I'd say there'd be safety issues with bringing a camcorder on some of the rides. But, Cat in the Hat? Too funny! Good thing you guys provide such great info on these boards cause I just bought a camcorder that I was planning on bringing on Cat in the Hat. I would've been so embarrassed if the ride had stopped and someone told me over the loud speaker to turn the camcorder off. :o However, I now see a way that I can get my little sis (23 yrs. old) back. Hmmm. ;)

LOL Alliekat!!!

BarberaMB - yeah, they didn't come over the loud speaker for us either...thankfully. My parents and I weren't encouraging her to videotaped, and were embarrassed that the ride stopped...even if they didn't announce it to anyone.

What about the Jurassic Park River Adventure? People seem to have freely taped there. I'd hate to have a ride completely stop due to me filming.:p

Off the top of my head, videotaping is not allowed on the following:
Shrek 4-D (the movie itself)
T2 (the movie area)
BTTF (on the ride)
MIB (on the ride)
Jaws (on the ride)
Nuthouse Coaster (on the ride)
Hulk (on the ride)
Dueling Dragons (on the ride)
Spider-Man (on the ride)
Fearfall (on the ride)
Cat in the Hat (on the ride)
E.T. Adventure (in the forest queue area and on the ride)

That's all I can think of for now.

It only makes sense. You could probably hurt yourself by doing so.

Yeah, the ride stopped, and a voice said........... "please turn off all video equiptment." When DH turned it off, the ride started up again!!!

The only ride we taped at Universal was Earthquake. LOL. Not a very exciting ride, but it was mostly my family and I being goofballs and the people 2 rows behind us we're laughing hysterically.

I know at Disney we taped Pirates and there was no problem. It's funny to watch though because there is a blinking light in the corner that you see when you watch the video, but can't see it with the human eye or even when you're taping. Weird....

We also taped the Haunted Mansion and Big Thunder Mountain!!!

WDW tends to be a bit more liberal in taping on rides. You cannot videotape on TOT, RNRC, or Milliionare, but everything else is fair game. I've videotaped lots of things like Space Mountain and even Mission: Space!

We taped Pirates too............ it didn't come out very well, but no one stopped the ride........... LOL pirate:

Technically, you're not supposed to videotape on ANY attraction. Some attractions are very strict on this. Others are more lenient as long as you don't use a bright light.

Mummy will forbid video cameras, regular cameras, and loose items all together.
